Is Free skier of the year a joke?

Title says it all, looking at the top amount of votes 800 for men and 400 for women, and with this being the last day of voting, this title doesn't seem so "prestigious" as free skier mag describes. I am fairly new to this competition but are these normal numbers? With such a large skiing base, having 800 people deciding the "freeskier of the year" seems like a joke to me

I'm happy to see George Rodney doing well. I'm glad the best competition circuit in skiing, the Freeride World Tour, is getting some recognition in this audience.

I'm more of a big mountain guy so I'm happy to see those guys getting their due. Sammy Carlson would be a good choice too.

Sage Cattobrigga Alosa won Powder magazines poll. I think that's more prestigious. It's alot more skiiers than just 12 year old fuckboys with a boner for Wallisch

Most pro's posted about it with a humble message that encouraged people to vote for their favorite skier, regardless of who it is. Gus posted a video of his best pipe run with a description of why he thinks he should win and then asked people to specifically vote for him.

Now Gus is going to win because thousands of people who have no idea what freeskiing is are voting for him only because he is gay and they like his instagram pictures.

In that case, Freeskier of the Year is indeed a joke.

Totally agree with this. Gus abusing the voting system by having a much larger fanbase then everyone else is something to frown upon. Unfortunately, the contest nowadays isn't worth much more then who's the most popular, so it shouldn't be taken too seriously regardless

To be fair Rodney is a deserving contender for pulling off the top spot Freeride World Tour in his first season - quite an accomplishment, like it or not!

Maybe my memory is short but what did she actually accomplish last season to deserve a spot in there? Aside from Emma there are many others like Tiril, Johanne, Giulia, Kelly, Silvia, Katie, Zuzicka plus some more from the CAN and US who mostly surpassed Lisa by now and would be more legid contenders.

Come on guys its just a numbers game. In 'Skiing' mag My home resort didn't even rank this year, where in 2009, beat out Whistler. I used to think, "Wow! Our home mtn in PA getting #1 in North America, what are the odds?" The 'odds' are the same in any other facet of life where money is involved. Don't kid yourself. Skiing is Illuminati.

I for one think Freeskier is a non-biased, comprehensive magazine that embodies all that is freeskiing. Skier of the year is an honor that none other than Tom Wallisch can hold, the Pretzel King has spun into the future so much that he will deserve Skier of the Year until the year 2077 where then Gus Kentworthy will use his 5.9 billion followers on instagram to edge out Nick Geopper to become world champion skier of the year. Freeskier magazine will then proceed to repost edits from the year 2003 and pretend they came out yesterday.


TLDR: freeskier sucks ass, vote for Rodney anyways because we all really do care about skier of the year deep down inside our bowels.
