Do you ever try to avoid skiing with friends?

Pretty much what the title says.

First off today a coworker of mine wanted to go skiing with me this weekend, and then later another friend of mine hit me up to go ski on Saturday.

Problem is, I know none of them like to ride park and chances are that they will be bringing some entry level riders with them. Nothing wrong with any of that, I just was finally ready to ride A-51 since I was "blacked out" on my pass that weekend.

So, NS, you ever blow off any of your friends to ride on your own?

Not really, just ski real fast and then pretend you lost them. Then sneak off and smash some cheeky laps in for yourself

I can relate op, most of my friends are gapers except for my roomie. Sometimes you just need some alone time, nothing wrong with that. That being said though, I usually try to include everyone. If i need to get away, I will usually just ski a few laps alone, then meet back up with the boyz .

Nothing wrong with is. Constantly waiting for them all day gets extremely annoying. It's cool they are trying to learn, but theres no reason to waste your time. If i were you, i would ski a couple laps with them and then go your own way.

I don't mind it every now and then. Some of my cousins always try to come up to Mount Snow for a weekend every year and all they do is bomb groomers at reckless speeds. Like I said, I don't care if it's for a weekend if I have a pass, but if it became regular it would suck. I always try and take them in the trees or down moguls, but no takers haha.

It is nice to be able to ski where you want and when you want at your pace.

Many of the people in my ski and snowboard club at school are gapers and in that case, I probably won't spend too much time around them when the season kicks of (Michigan). They always talk about "how good they are at snowboarding" and all. I'm one of the only skiers as well. So I don't care for any of them, just my student pass.

Not when there is snow to be had in the trees and lift lines that are ski up to the chair.

Booming groomers is fun but I'm talking about dudes that have no control haha.

I love my friends...but can't stand riding with the shitty ones. Always complaining, don't like trees, if its anything more than groomers then fall so far behind im waiting for ever.

Going otu west to tahoe for a week in Feb to my friends families house. 3 of our shitty gaper friends basically invited themselves through his mom. I'm pretty pissed about it not going to let them ruin my Squaw Valley / Alpine meadows trip.

Will ditch them in a heart beat. I appreciate them trying to learn but for people who only go up a few times a year its not even worth the effort teaching.

I once took a friend who boasted for the entire ride to the hill about how skilled he was.

after seeing that he could barely manage to put on his snowboard, and him falling on the approach to the first chair of the day.. we went our separate ways

they stay on the bunny hill && you run park laps

I took my gaper friend with me on a ski day vacation. I went to a resort without a good park since I suck at park and wanted to ski real black diamonds and no ohio "blacks". my friend was scared to do half of the blues even though he talks shit at school about being really good. I took him into a beginner glade on a green angled slope and he "hit an ice patch" and sprained his wrist. So i went to ski patrol with him and they were actualy nice. They Gave him ice and sent him to the lodge with my dad. I just ditched him and my dad and took some laps on some steeps and a snow cross course that was sick. I feel a little guilty, but i wanted difficult terrain. I would say to ditch them and say maybe a different time OP.

Well you might not feel that way if the only friends you have to ride with aren't skilled enough to keep up/ride trees and difficult terrain/ride park with.

It is nice riding with friends, sure, and I'll slow down and stay with them, but it gets annoying when I bomb a short part of a groomer and I'm far ahead already.

As far as the first part of your post goes, I'll modify that a bit. It's hard to find skilled friends to ride with. (IMO)

Nothing wrong with riding by yourself OP. If you go with friends that can't keep up, take a few laps with them if you so desire then just say you want to go ride some different terrain. Meet up with them later if you want to shred with them, or don't, it's your call. There's always time to grab some beers after.

I am beginning to prefer solo trips because even if I bring friends who like to ski park, most of them want to leave after 2 hrs. I don't get to ski as much as I used to/want to, so I tend to ski long days when I do get out.

all of my friends, except for the ones i work with, are extreme gapers and most of the people i work with can keep up but dont really do anything in the park so i find myself skiing alone a lot. its not bad cause you get to ski however you want but at the same time it would be cool to have someone that can keep up and want to ski more in general.

I have like 3 friends that i enjoy riding with because we are all the same skill level and can all keep up with each other, i have friends that ask me to teach them all the time. I straight up tell them no...i tell them to pay for lessons 1, the instructor will be way more patient than me 2, probably better at teaching 3, i don't lose a day of skiing.

Depends, if they're really close friends then its gonna be a good time, gapers or not. Just take a few refreshers and you'll be out there trying stupid shit on side booters, laughing and having a blast with yer homie.

I like to hike rails and most my friends are too lazy to hike so we ski for a little bit then I go hike and they take some park laps.... I think the chairs waste soo much fucking time.

Pretty often, yeah. Night skiing alone is relaxing for me so I often won't go with anyone and avoid people while I'm there.

My friends all suck, but they claim they're good. I've seen them ski before and it's a disaster, and the always want to come skiing with me. I can definitely relate

So my ex-girlfriend and I went with another couple to Summit Co. last spring break. The other couple both snowboarded and my girlfriend skied rentals while I was on my bacon's. Skied 2 runs in 5 days of skiing with my girlfriend. Couldn't even get her to try a blue. I'm cool with you not having the skill yet to ski something, but sticking in your comfort zone not trying to get better really made me mad. I essentially third wheeled for two snowboarders for 5 days of skiing. At least they could shred so it was ok. The 4th day we got a mad overnight dump of like 9 inches and my ex-girlfriend wouldn't even come ski because she didn't like the "soft stuff" so I ditched her in the condo and rode pow all morning.

If they where terrible I would usually ski with them for the morning to make them feel good but I am not going pay the money for the trip to the mountains and lift pass to ski some gorb shit. Pretend to "Lose" them and take so tasty turns and get your moneys worth rather than skiing blues all day.

I'v met pretty much all my friends working and living in ski towns so they all kill it. If they didn't we probably wouldn't be friends in the winter. If I had friends that were no good I wouldn't ski with them unless I wanted to burn a day to be nice. you can always make them hold the camera tho

if they dont like park just go through the park and if they want to do something else then let them go. now you can go though the park yourself without your gaper companions at your side

You just gotta find the right friends to go with, or what I do when I'm with slow people it just make everything on the side of the trail a jib and get really buttery, obviously not as good as lapping park but dicking around on the all mountain can be fun if you make it.

I know the feeling. In college I always tried to ski with everyone, and while it was cool and social, half the time I wanted to just go ride by myself or with only a select few. Now I just try to ski with the crew I'm with and if I run into people on the hill or get a text/call I'll let them know where I am, ski the obligatory run or two, and then dip back out and keep doing what I enjoy. The whole reason being that I liked to ski with others as good or better than me because that's how I tend to progress and try new things. Skiing could get kinda stale with the slower large groups and I love it too much to have that happen.

Sometimes. Maybe it's because there's a group of like 60 people that are all wicked good friends on the ill, so sometimes you can get sucked into a gigantic, ever-growing group of people and it can kill your flow.


Oh, and on pow days? Fuck everyone, straight up.
