nutz.you sure you have a fluid head tripod? video heads are a bit different than the ballheads and stuff you use for photography.
and more storage is always better! dunno about a portable backup system, I mean if you can get an external monitor, they can often record to ssd's?
some form of stabilization will be good too, be it a handle, a fig rig, or a gimbal.
If you're only doing video I highly recommend you pick up a GH3 instead of a t5i, although you missed the cyber monday sale yesterday when BHphoto was selling them for 500 new. It'll be much more worth it in almost all aspects of video
jmellberg800a couple of my friends have canons so they know how to operate them wouldnt really make much sense to get something different than everyone else. and i have a mac at my house with a 3 terabyte external hard drive so storage really isnt an issue. just looking for something more portable so i didnt have to buy multiple sd cards. as for the tripod im sure its not the highest quality but im basically gonna buy the essentials first and then some better upgrades. im confident ill stick with it but just in case i dont like it i dont want a bunch of accessories laying around.
nutz.it sort of would make sense to get something else though, you just need an adapter and you'll be able to use all of their lenses. Why would you not pay less to get a better camera? the gh3 has true 1080 at 60p, none of your buddies cameras will have that... and you'll learn how to use it yourself pretty quick if you're motivated.
Look you can choose to spend your money however you want, but I'm just saying that if you're only doing video, the gh3 blows the t5i out of the water for less or the same amount of money.
jmellberg800yeah well im also going to ecuador this year for spring break so ill be taking a lot of photos and i want to be able to take pictures. Did not mention that it would solely be for video that is an important piece of information haha.
also any recommendations for a mic was thinking of just like a RODE Video mic. would the video mic pro be a better choice. i mean how important is the audio if im gonna put a sound over it. just want it for the occasional dialogue and sound of hitting rails and other features
nutz.sound of hitting rails and stuff you can just use foley and record it with your phone, same with voice but it'll be a bit of a pain to sync it up with in camera audio.
the Gh3 also takes photos btw haha, maybe not as great at the canon but it's capabilities have never really held me back. I did photos only on the gh2 for a year and got some decent shots that I don't see a t5i taking any better. I mean the GH3 technically has higher dynamic range than the t5i, the only difference is in sensor size and maybe in focus speed, but I haven't really run into many problems with that either.
Do a bit of research for both still I'd say.
And a rode videomic would be fine for all your needs, the pros just a bit smaller/has a few more features
jmellberg800deffinitely look into it. as for the mic the last thing i need is more things to tinker with haha ill just get used to the basic stuff and then upgrade

ben_collinsyou will need a mic even if its just a $100 one. Audio is half the film and most people will click away from a video with shitty as audio and great visuals then one with ok visuals and beautiful audio
