Why is skiing is better than snowboarding???

I'm writing a persuasive essay for a shitty community college and I need ideas. All I have so far is:

healthier
better culture
richer history- I'm only talking freestyle for both sports so it only goes back 30ish years

No Shaun White

This sombitch gotta be at least five pages and I managed 3 out of the top 3 ideas.

Both sports have something that makes them "better" than the other.

Snowboarders can walk easier in their boots, skiers can get down the hill faster because they don't have to strap in.

Snowboarding is known more as a freestyle sport. Freestyle skiing is still pretty unique because most people think skiing is just carving perfect little s-turns down the mountain. Freestyle skiing still has a ton of progress to make if it is going to become known as a "Badass flips and tricks" sport among the public. So its pretty fun to know that you can change the sport and help make it more popular. Skiing doesn't have an equivalent of a Shaun White who is known around the country yet.

Both are fun sports so I don't think we should downplay snowboarding at all.

What about skiing having an overall better looking style? Grabs and rails especially.

Not being strapped in with both feet and going faster makes skiing undeniably better when you are talking about ability to descent mountains at your own will and power and having extra freedom. I also prefer the art of perfecting turns on skis.

Im afraid to do jumps because my feet are locked in on boards so I can't compare the two in the park.

But man give me a board for ripping up intermediate groomers on a warm day at a non challenging hill. Love that stuff and totally beats being bored on skis. Snowboarding has an easy learning curve more people should do it a few ttimes a year when your with gapers and don't want to wait for them or just at a boring small hill.

Actually you can argue with the work done because a+a=a isnt possible unless its 0 or nothing.

But you could argue that because you have two independent planks, that your knees are more susceptible to injury.

Not trying to argue, just trying to offer a different perspective.

They probably are I'd bet there are more knee injuries in skiing than snowboarding as a whole. My plan for the health aspect was to kinda bs the whole thing and make some shit up that the teacher wouldn't be able to prove wrong

more grabs, different ways of positioning and tweaking your body in the air, can grab two different planks, screamin seamen, actually riding fully switch unlike them pussy snowboarders, poles so we can actually get around flat/tight areas... etc im sure theres lots more as snowboarding is garbage in comparison ;)

The point of the proof is to prove 2=1. The issue with it is that you are dividing by zero, which makes the math break down and hence the result.

That sounds like the topic to a 3rd grade English class paper.


I honestly don't see any obvious advantage one has over the other. I guess the only reason I have that skiing is "better" for me at least is that everyone ignorant of snow sports know snowboarding is "cool". However, Substantially less people know the epicness that goes on in skiing. Which results in more gapers choosing snowboarding thus kinda watering down the charisma and or uniqueness of the community.

Plus snowboarders don't have a dope website such as this.

Skiing's not better than snowboarding and vise versa. They are different and both fantastic.

Also, find a topic that isn't so subjective. The skiing vs. snowboarding debate is only (sort of) interesting to those who ski or snowboard, but at the end of the day, no one cares. I tried writing a paper on skiing in grade 9 and it was awful because no one is interested in it.

Go write a persuasive essay on why all refugees are terrorists (they aren't) or why Trump should be president (he shouldn't) or why self-driving cars are the worst (they are), why :) (emoji's) should be the Webster's dictionary word of the year (they shouldn't), how North Korea landed someone on the sun or some kind of crap that you're teacher will actually be interested in.

if you're only talking about freestyle/park and stuff, how does skiing have a richer history than snowboarding? have you done any research whatsoever?

SKiing is worse on your knees. Moguls and shit.


Snowboarding wrecks your upper body. You fall over a lot no matter what. Snowboarding is the wrong one to be proficient and an expert at after your mid 30s.


Seriously though snowboarding has a ridiculously easy learning curve in my opinion everyone should be capable of doing it and linking some turns down a blue. Give it a go for a couple days its fun.

I've found the opposite to be honest.

Snowboarding is hard to learn, but once you do it's easy to be good at. Skiing is stupid easy to learn, but really hard to be proficient at. Just my opinion though

better culture? based on what? Both park skiing and snowboarding as a whole just stole skateboard/surf culture and brought it to snow.

richer history - you would have been right if you weren't just talking freestyle skiing. Based on freestyle alone, one could argue that snowboarding is richer due to the trials they went through to become accepted by the ski industry. What has freestyle skiing fought for (besides acceptance from snowboarders)

No Shaun White - I would like to agree with you on this one, but as far as sport and industry is concerned, Shaun White has done more for the progression and growth of freestyle snowboarding into the mainstream than anyone else. That isn't exactly a bad thing.

Yeah agreed sort of what I meant.


I freakin nasty as hell on a snowboard for someone who went a good 8 years without doing it and still falls 70-80% of the time getting off lifts can't handle the not strapped in and I skate/get on lifts goofy and the opposite way around of how I board which is likely part of why I always fall getting on off.

Not going to be hitting features in the park but I can bomb down steep runs completely in control making good turns and can crush trees like a good boarder can. But both feet are locked in and at high speeds the falls all hurt like F. Can only take so many of them and they are coming and not far away unless you go slow. So good in small doses on lame terrain.


If I was somewhere like Stratton I'd 100% rather board than ski.

Better tricks!!!!!! cause on skis you can scissor and throw switch ups and spins on rails and presses and all of that honky dory stuff the line traveling circus does. unlike on a snowboard you can only do like 5050's, board slides, and presses and you can attempt a spin off or on but idk. PLUS on skis you can do all of the jump trickz

it promotes freedom and creativity as well as lightening the mood in a high stress environment. rollerblading is actually much better for your knees as well as saving time moving around.

or that snowsports are shitty and a waste of time.
