PeppermillRenoOne good winter and people expect that to be the norm on the east coast???? You can't get that kind of skiing out here without leaving for the most part. No matter how bad it is snowmaking will get most of the NH/VT/ME resorts over half open by winter break. You'll get your parks by then.
Just because there is no natural and small hills are closed doesn't mean we can't get turns Im skiing Stowe tomorrow and Weds its cold enough up there for good top to bottom runs last Weds was legit its not like the east coast is completely unreliable like a bad Tahoe winter where warm means warm. Theres still mediocre skiing early season just like theres always something (Killy/Tucks) pretty late. All the big east coast mountains offer reasonable passes (Loon/Killy/SR/Stowe) too so you can get some crappy groomer runs in when there is not a single spec of snow to be seen anywhere.
Feel bad for kids in HS who race and are going to be doing stupid shit off the snow instead. And I feel bad for people who do all their shredding at small places with no snowmaking. If you have a pass to a big mountain you can still ski tho and shouldn't be expecting last year try and budget for a few days outside NE to get stoked on and just enjoy whatever comes.

cjt121099Except for those who are stuck in ohio who are over 5 hours away from any resort thats open.
PeppermillRenoNo doubt it sucks.
People from places like that usually have to drive up to VT to ski a week @ Thanksgiving tho despite their being skiing all the way down to North Carolina.
This is the absolute extreme worst early season you can have. But even in a normal year that isn't awful like this you are only skiing the main snowmaking rigged trails at this time of year anyway.
So basically up in VT/NH/ME despite it being the shittiest of shit starts your only a chairlift or two and a path or two down from the top away from average. Glades and stuff are almost never open right now or for another few weeks. Its still November.
cjt121099My hill opened in january with the epic season the region had. The neighboring resort opened on thanksgiving. I'm not even phased by the awful winter so far because i normally wouldnt be skiing anyway. My hill even has 100% ski polecat snowmaking...
Connor_SullivanI didn't even realize that Cat snowmaking was a thing. That's pretty fresh
AnesteeziaMan, this is a weird year. Its warmer than usual in Wisconsin/Minnesota but its still cold enough to make snow at night. Usually when the temperatures hover around 28-30 F there's going to be some massive snow storms.
Somehow its going to be a good year in the Upper Midwest but a lot of the country is struggling.
cjt121099I meant smi Polecat, the black guns that mount snow and a lot of other places have. I hate going on ns on my phone.

MinggI think it's hilarious that people on the west coast are all like "stfu you had it great last year. this is just karma." But the west STILL GOT MORE FUCKING SNOW THAN WE DID.
I'm just reminded about how shitty winter is here.
Home hill doesn't have enough money to make snow, no real snow to ski on. If we don't open by Jan 1st(which is unlikely) they are most likely going to shut down for winter ops. They'll just turn it into a dirtbike/off road/mountain bike place in the summer and shut down for winters. They've been thinking about shutting down for a while now. So this winter is probably going to be the end of it.
Sooooo yeah. Winter. Woo. So stoked.
Here's our extended forecast
THEDIRTYBUBBLESurprised Peak resorts didn't fire Boyd for that.
