Biking to the Mountain

My car is old, my mountain is a 15 minute drive away, If my car broke down I'd bike to the mountain. Any suggestions on backpacks that'd help you carry all your stuff?

Basically looking for a cheap backpack that I'd be able to carry my skis on my back and fit food and other accessories in.

Does anyone have any experience in biking to the mountain or am I the only one thinking of the idea?

The farthest you need to get is to the main road to the mountain, then you can stick yer thumb out and catch a ride the rest of the way.

I use this pack because it is the shit, I've always had enough room for everything I need and it holds my skis well too, I would imagine you will get a bunch of recommendations for dakine packs on here

Dakine Heli Pro. Wear your ski gear, straps skis to the pack using the purpose-made straps, put the boots in the bindings. Find some way to attach the poles. And you've got 20L inside for clif bars, spare clothes, etc.
I've biked with skis attached to my Heli Pro, and it works fine, but only if you use a ski strap to tie the tips of the skis together (to carry them A-frame). If you do not do this, they'll flail all over and it won't work.

This is what hoji and matty richards do. Not sure how alpine bindings would work, but something to think about.

Ok, so don't tie them diagonal? carry them like this?

Biking with skis on your back is going to be awful, you should find a way to mount the skis onto your bike.

Hitch riding is not an option since this mountain is 400ft tall at most, so not a very big place and not a lot of people go

Wisco life? I would go for a strap carry on the bike somehow but otherwise, would shoot for an A-frame carry so your skis don't get in the way. You could always attach a tray on the back of your bike above the rear tire as well to carry a bag with the rest of your gear.

I've tried it before, all I can say is make sure you are really in shape cause a 30lbs of ski gear turns a moderate uphill bike ride into an exhausting experience which may or may not have ended in me vomiting my breakfast of toaster waffles into a trash bin in the base lodge...

Hahahah! No way! I just did this today. First off, PUT THE SKIS AND BOOTS ON YOUR BIKE! This is what I did, it worked pretty good:




Then just do it. I was on a single speed and had to do 2k of climbing, so that sucked, but it was totally worth it! It hurts so good but I love that kind of thing

What kind of straps are those? Yea my hill is only 9 miles away and I live in Wisconsin so obviously not many hills

Good job tho, that looked like a tough time!

Ahh, dude, you totally got it then.


NRS straps, they are incredible, I used to wear one as a belt, get like 4 of the 6 foot ones, and three of the 3ft ones and take them everywhere you go, they are like duct tape but better. They have saved my butt so many times.

But you can get away with using just normal ski straps too, I used like 3 ski straps and 2 NRS straps

Yea, I think that will be my last resort, I'll try to attach my skis to my bike. Because that will be a pain when the hills come in...

My car is working rn, just wanted this info in case it did break down so I would be able to ski still.
