BarryMcKocinerI love big trucks too man. Been waiting for a thread like this! Personally my favorite is Cummins. Same engine for a long time, something tells me they're done right. Also the 7.3 powerstroke is debatebly the best engine. Duramax.. They seem to be good. The injectors go out on the earlyish 2000's ones, so thats not good. Don't like the IFS of the Chevy/GMC though. Personally, I will be driving a dodge one day. Toyota will do for now.
FrenchFryI can say honestly i fucking hate them. Dude they're soon bad for the environment. We're skiers. It should be easy to support the environment. Like unless you neeeeeeeeeed one for work cuz you're carrying heavy shit all day, don't fucking get one!!!!

SamtheEagleDiesel burns a lot cleaner than gas. Check your facts.
VinnieFha. no. diesel burns way dirtier that gas. they're more fuel efficient engines but still pollute more.
SamtheEagleMaybe older trucks but newer diesels produce about 90% less soot and are lower in carbon dioxide and other hydrocarbons compared to gas. Diesel also has a better return in terms of energy invested over energy returned because there is a lot less refining.
uturnIts really an opinionated question because there's hardcore brand allegiance. Everyone likes cummins and they really are the best options, except dodges rust alost, especaily in the east. People that like ford and powerstroke genraly despise chevy duramax and vice versa. Overall they are all nice trucks that will run for a really long time if taken care of properly, just go with the one you like the most. (also, don't make it roll coal)
RusticlesI think that the brand allegiance runs past the Diesel engine pushing it. Cummins is great but, the rest of the dodge has been hideous in the past...... but is getting slightly better. GM has the best ride quality always has and has a more luxurious feel to it. Ford, not too sure what they bring to the table, pretty gross just like dodge. but to each their own I guess.
uturnwhy is it that people who like chevy/GM always have to defend it at every possible chance, and usually do it by trashing all other brands.

CrotchKiller5.9 cummins or 7.3 powerstroke.
Get a manual if you can with the 7.3, you'll go through 3-4 auto trannys in the life of the engine. 12v cummins over 24v but the 24v is a nicer ride and newer.
Stay away from the. 6.0 and 6.4 unless the headstuds have been done along with a egr/dpf delete. They can be made into good reliable motors but it's not cheap.
Both the new 6.7 powerstroke and 6.7 cummins look like good motors. I'd go cummins for the manual trans but that's personal preference. Both should have dpf egr deletes done to them, it'll only improve the health and milage of your engine.
Be aware that because of new epa regulations and the equipment installed to pass them the newer diesels are terrible on fuel compared to the old 7.3 and 5.9 (which were in the low 20mpg range.) The 6.4 gets low teens before a dpf/egr delete.
Don't buy a diesel unless you need it. They are big motors designed to haul heavy loads not haul around your groceries.
saskskierWhile not diesel's, I have two co-workers with Ram 1500's and one of my good friends has one (all 2014+) and all seem to be working great. I've gone on two 3000-4000km road trips in my friends truck and it's been flawless with pretty solid fuel mileage considering it's a truck.
If I had to get a truck (that wasn't a Toyota) right now, it'd probably go with a Dodge.
FrenchFrydude sure it burns cleaner but in a honda civic ir golf you use an eighth or the amount. So that argument is just retarded.

DACO-TOGdo you know anything about cars?

VinnieFAh, I found where you're getting confused. No, it doesn't burn cleaner. More emissions per emitted per unit diesel than gas. But, diesel being more efficient means that modern engines can be cleaner per distance driven. They still burn dirtier though.
The 90% figure you had I found and wasn't that they are 90% cleaner than gas but that they are up to 90% cleaner than older diesel engines.
VinnieFyes. and driving a truck over a car need to really is that much worse for the environment. there is no debating this.
japanadaif you aint stroking youre cumming.
7.3L powerstroke is regaurded as on of the best diesel engines ever
The Ford 6.0L diesel blows, fun far far away from it.
The Ford 6.4L in the newer trucks is a lot better than the 6.0L, more refined, quieter, easy can match the 7.3Ls power numbers and is almost as reliable as it when you delete some of the emmision and EGR stuff.
Mod_Daneyou really don't know what you're talking about. The 6.4 is one of the most unreliable pieces of shit that ford has ever produced. The 6 was an engine made by international that ford, nor international tested properly resulting in most of their headgaskets exploding. After you rebuild a 6 properly, they're regarded as one of the most bombproof engines around.
international still uses the exact same 6l with a beefed up head (had to be done anyways) in industrial and commercial vehicles, the 6.4 was garbage.
