Kinco + sno seal

I made a thread asking what gloves were cheap and worked well... people said kinco.

I tried google and it seemed everyone did it differently so I was wondering if there is one way that won't go wrong...


So now my question is how to put sno seal on...

Do I heat the mittens before and after sno seal? Or just before? Or just after?

Do I use a hair dryer? Oven? Stove?


Temp if I use oven?


How long do I heat for?

Snow seal shouldn't require heat, I've heated my leather gloves for other products but have never needed to for snow seal.

Sno seal def requires heat... http://www.instructables.com/id/Inexpensive-Skiing-Snowboarding-Gloves/step5/null/

This website gives a good tutorial, but I never put the gloves face down?

I put mine in the oven on the lowest setting. That was like 120 for my oven. Sno seal usually has instructions anyway. Anyway I put them in the over for like 5-10, until they got warm/hot. Took them out and applied sno seal. Then I put them back in for a little bit, took them out, and wiped down the extra sno seal with a paper towel. Super easy. Only take like 15 minutes and most of that is sitting in the oven

Sweet thanks, Do I ever flip them? Or do I just lay them in palm up every time?

Same. Except on my oven the lowest is 180 so I just do them at 180 and have no problems

When you put them in do you just lay them palm up every time or do you rotate them?

180 degrees for 15-20 mins, flipping halfway through. Be sure to watch them to make sure they dont burn. The gloves are cheap, but your house will smell like burning leather for a few days. I put them on my hands usually with a thin glove on my hands cause these things will be hot as hell, then liberally apply snowseal and rub your hands together until its all absorbed. Reapply as necessary.

I've used mine for a couple of seasons now without heating them. The packet states up to 120f which is only 48c, about the temp of using a hair dryer, it only needs friction activation to really make it work. My orginial set of gloves that were baked are no more waterproof than the set that I didn't bother to bake.

The trick to actually making it work is to start with a clean glove, you have to remove all the colouring and tanning from the leather, both of my sets sealed far better once that had been cleaned and dried then sealed.

Yeah I heat it up, apply the side that's up, then flip it and repeat.
