Replying to Trouble With Shop Mounting Bindings
Sorry for the life story right here but I've been having way too much trouble with this one shop. I brought my skis(on3p jessies and pivots) in like 10 days ago to get my new skis mounted. They charged me $75 for the mount, 30 for a remount on my park skis since I didn't buy anything there(understandable). But then they told me it would be 3 weeks till I could pick them up which wasn't cool.
So I was like yeah I can't wait that long because I'm going out of town. So I asked for my money and park skis back(since I could at least use those) and they told me I could pick both of them up the day before I left. But that still was after the projected opening day for our hill and I was like nahh but then they promised if it snowed that I could call and pick them up that night. Why they wouldn't let me take my park skis back? idk, it was sketchy though.
So that was cool of them. I called up monday since the hill said they would open friday and they said I could pick them up Wednesday night. So I call wednesday morning and they say everything is all set to be picked up and I go back that night to get everything. I get there and the shop owner tells me my jessies/pivots are not safe to ski. He said they "failed" which I am now assuming is the torque test. So I asked what he meant by failed and he didn't answer. He said the bindings were garbage and went off on a tangent about how he was sponsored by Rossi and tore his ACLs 6 times using fks. He even explained to me for 2 whole minutes that FKS and Pivots were the same binding, as if I wasn't fucking aware.
So I was like are they defective? And he didn't give me an answer. He didn't offer any kind of advice about what I should do. He just said "ski at your own risk" and that it was very dangerous to use pivots. Then that was it...
So now I don't know what the fuck to do. My friend who works at a different shop said that they failed the torque test because they weren't adjusted right and they didn't take the time to adjust them. So they were warning me that they did a shit job. Idk how accurate this is though.
Question time.
1. When you do a torque test, do they do it after they mount them or before? Basically idk if they failed because they're defective or if they did a bad job adjusting them because he wouldn't tell me even though I asked twice.
2. What are the odds of brand new bindings being defective? What are the odds that this shop is just dicking me around and didn't do the work right?
3. Are they actually dangerous to ski?
4. If I take them to a different shop would that shop be able to help or is the damage already done?
5. When you get bindings mounted is it fair to expect you get your skis back in skiable condition? If so, is it fair to want a refund since they didn't really do all the work they should have.
