Yes dude! I am living on Oahu now and really want to do it. I saw a video of some snowboarders doing a Road-gap on the top of the volcano. Possible for sure!!
Its called Mauna Kea, unfortunately nearly unskiable now due to sharp volcanic rocks that'll wreck your skis, lava flows, etc. No lifts so you would need a driver. Still would be fun to try if it doesn't blow up.
I've heard of people skiing up on Mauna Kea; but I haven't gone into any extensive research on the amount terrain, vertical drop, avg. snowfall, etc.
Ik there are quite a few (large) cinder cones scattered about the peak, so I can only
help but think that's where the best skiing is, given there's a viable snowpack.
I was in Hawaii over the summer and asked some of the astronomers on top of Mauna Kea about skiing there in the winter months and they said theyve done it before, its just not that great.
It used to get more publicity, but "they" decided that due to the gnarly obsidian rocks that will fuck you up - it's kind of a 'in the know' thing now.
Hit it on the right day and it could be very memorable. Crash and rag doll down some volcanic glass and it could also be very memorable. win/win?
