Why are ski bindings constructed with Magnesium

I can understand completely why metal parts on ski bindings are not made with a metal susceptible to rust or corrosion (such as steel) but I struggle to understand why they use magnesium. any solid info is getting some K+

Its because its so light while still maintaining a good strength properties, which means it has become widely used therefore relatively cheap, plus its structure shape makes it good for castings, (which most/all binding parts are).

and that it can be casted into almost whatever shape you want, so it gives industrial designers a lot of design freedom.
