Question about Ski Maintenance

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to ski maintenance.
So I've been skiing on turf these past few months, and my ski bases turned really white. I hot scraped my skis twice and hot waxed them once, but after a few runs on my backyard setup, they turned white again. I recently got mSnow, rubbed on a little of mWax, but my bases still have white streaks in them. I'll probably be on the mSnow for a while, as there's no snow where I live yet. What should I do? The guy at the shop said base grind, but people have told me not to. (I've attached an image on my bases) Thanks for any help.

I can't say, as I've only been skiing on my backyard setup. Won't know till I get to snow.

Base grind

or (and this one might sound crazy) olive oil (or any vegetable oil)

smear the oil over the bases and then cover the skis in wax like you would over summer. let them sit for one day at least and the remove the wax and oil and wax the skis like you would normally. I havn't tried this, but I have heard of people doing it with succes.


I think a base grind and a good couple of wax layers would fix your problems the best though

To prevent the base burn. Spray the turf with water and soap every time before you sesh. It will reduce friction.

Anyone want to attempt to speak top the science behind this idea?

I've always been of the rule that nothing except wax should touch a base unless you're fixing or stripping everything off with wax cleaner. No oils, cleaners, soap, blood or even semen.

when you want to fix it a base grind will help open up the spoors then a good wax will do the trick.

I did that back when I had turf, I'm using mSnow now though, and just rub on some mWax to reduce friction.

I'll definitely get a base grind and wax my skis sometime this week. I feel like mSnow though (being made of hard and pointy bristles), is gonna strip all the wax right off and I'll have base burn again. What actually is base burn are there ways to prevent it?
