Vail Daily Driver: 15/16 Faction Candide 3.0 V.S. ON3P Wrenegade 112

What up everyone,

I'm looking to replace my daily driver for Colorado skiing, skiing the bowls at Vail is my favorite thing to ride. I'm 6' 0" 160 and I like to ride fast, jump moguls, straight line, catch air and do big slalom style turns on groomers. Skiing forward is my focus. Obviously tree's are fun, but they are not my focus for this ski purchase. I use 190 Armada Magic J's for deep powder and tree skiing, and I love them.

Currently my daily driver is the 2010 189 K2 Obsethed (red/blue totem pole graphics) Kick ass ski, but it is quite heavy, and I think the rocker profile is quite dated. Also this ski is truly a 194cm ski because k2 measured from contact point to contact point that year.

I think the 15/16 192cm Candide 3.0's would be an awesome choice due the 26m turn radius and the fact that this ski is superlight, lighter than the 2.0 even.

Has anyone skiied the 192 or 186 3.0's or the wrenegade 112's, and could give me their thoughts?

I also considered the faction chapter 106's and the kartel 106's, but I don't think they are as much of a stable speed and carving demon that I am looking for compared to these.

Also if their are other skis you think would be a better choice, post it up.

your obsetheds will be in no way even close to as stable as the wrenengade, or even the faction. The kartel is most comparable to the candide 3.0 in my opinion. skied them all...

kartel is more jib, candide in the middle with wrenegade on the full hard charge.

There aren't many skis out there that are as stable as the Wren 112. They're meant to do 1 thing, go fast as fuck, and they do it damn well.

Based on your desire to straight line and go fast, I'd say the Wren 112 would be right up your ally. They're no slouch though, you have to drive them, but when you do, there's really no turning back. The Kartel 106 is great (probably my favorite ski out there right now), but for what you're looking to do on them, the 186 Wren 112 is perfect.

Hey man, thanks for your input. Glad to hear you've skiied them all! What size 3.0 did you ride?

I am leaning toward the 3.0 because it will be a more versatile and lighter, but I bet it will still handle straight lining and charging hard fairly well especially if I buy the 192cm version with the 26m turn radius.

What do you think of 192 size versus the 186? Are they drastically different?

I've skied last years 191 and this years 186. Pretty comparable, but in my opinion, size is a matter of personal preference. Of course, each size usually has a different flex, radius etc..

comparing the wren vs candide


You'll want to decide whether you want to save weight, feel more vibrations but have less swing weight (candide)

Or go heavier, damper and more materials to help prevent damage. (wren)






at the end of the day, all 3 choices are great. better than a lot of mass produced junk *cough* rossi
