RedPandaSounds like it would be easier to just pull people in with a rope attached to the atv instead
uturndo you want the winch to be portable or is it going to be in one spot... even a small atv seems too heavy to be portable. Also the gearbox is going to mean that you have to shift as you are pulling the person making it take longer to reach top speed. sell the atv and use the money to buy parts to build one
kylemcleanBeen looking around for a winch but since they cost about a billion dollars I was looking at building one. Then an idea occurred to me. I have a small ATV that I don't ride anymore because moved and don't have much property anymore. So I thought about just using that as my winch. I want to know if it's possible to replace one of the rear wheel with some type of spool. I would then mount it so that neither the spool or other other rear wheel were in contact with the snow. So NS I ask will this work?
imetherdI used an old pit bike and took the rear tire off and tied rope to the air hole in the rim and its been working great.
kylemcleanhow many cc was it
