Telling steal from aluminium rails.

Alright I know a big noob thread. But bear with me..
I know there is another thread thats somewhat related but whatever it a year old.

So I just transferred to a new High School. And it loaded with rails. It has triple kinks, flat rails and the normal down rail. But I cant tell what kind of rails they are (I am a noob I know) So if anyone has pics or can just tell me the difference that would be great.

Aluminum rails are shiny silver. Steel rails, if they aren't painted, are less shiny.

aluminum is much much softer than steel. something like a hammer would easily put a dent in aluminum.

also the the sound ot makes when you tap it. steel should make a light ting and aluminum should be quieter because it absorbs vibrations better.

Look for rust stains in the concrete at the base of the rails. Not a way to tell you if something is NOT steel, but if there's rust, its definitely steel.

If you're still not comfortable from the above tips, just bring a magnet.

If it is aluminum, the magnet will not stick to the rail.

Aluminum feels light and has a slight grit to it, while steal is a misdemeanor or felony offense depending on how much you steal.

Aluminum is too sticky to slide you don't catch your edge because its soft it just doesn't slide. But feel it if it is shiny softer sticky its aluminium. also aluminum is not magnetic

Aluminum is a much lighter and more easily damaged metal. Tapping the rail will tell you something like they mentioned above. The best bet is to make a small scratch in the rail with a knife. Aluminum will scratch easily, steel does not.

Bring a magnet, if it sticks it's steel if if dosnt, it's aluminum.

Pics aren't gonna help you nearly as much as you just flicking the rail with your nail, it's pretty dang obvious if it's aluminum or steel when you feel it.

Also like the above people said, just bring a magnet.
