Wednesday January 12, 2005. Erik Lewis of North Bend Washington was caught in an avalanche at Alpental. He was 28 years old. He was touring in the backcountry before it was open. He was a very skilled backcountry skier and knew his limits. He had a tracking beacon. When the avalanche happened he and his friend were swept down. His friend dug him self out and went to go get erik. By the time he got to him he wasn't breathing. He was airlifted out to harborview hospital in Seattle. He died there. He was the type of skier that lived for it. He didn't care about style and his clothes. He just loved being out there with his friends charging. His death is grieved by many. Erik to me will be known as a boss, a mentor, a fellow skier and most of all a Friend. RIP

Erik Lewis was as well my boss in a way and as well a fellow friend. I met him at the Nursery and from then on we became better and better friends. My nickname for him was fucker or faggot what ever he felt like and I always smiled when he called me that. Our sign of goodbye was we gave each other the finger. All I can say is he was an awesome guy and I look up to him in so many different ways. We toked it together, we bridge jumped together, and most of all we laughed together. RIP E.L. I can't begin to say how good of a person erik was. he was the kind of guy that you looked up to and really thought of as a big brother. he taught me many things about life and i dont think he ever said no to a single thing i ever asked him. he will be missed greatly by so many people in so many places. he died skiing, and i guarantee you he wouldnt have wanted to end it any other way.
