Before I say anything, mad respect for the urban skiers out there. Now with that being said after watching the "For Lack Of Better" movie I wasn't sure if it was the reddest thing I'd ever seen or if it was the stupidest thing I'd ever seen. The amount of time, injuries and damage the guys do is absolutely ridiculous. No doubt the skiing in the movie is gnarly as hell but is it really worth it?

I can imagine I'll get some heat off of this about how these skiers are doing rad things and risking everything but my question is that is it necessary to risk your life and damage other people's property when you could simply find a similar rail in a different location. Personally urban skiing is super sick but it is possible to do it without vandalizing and doing things that with the slightest mistake your severely injured or dead. Skiing is supposed to be fun and something to do with your buddies, an escape from everything for the few hours that you are clicked in and are the happiest your ever gonna be. This is hard to obtain when you are so stressed out about challenging the odds and playing with death just to get a 10 second shot for a 2 minute video part.

I am not very involved in urban skiing other than a few rails here and there around town but I can't wait to see what you guys, who have seen the movie and are part of the street skiing community, have to say from a different point of few.

For lack of better was one of the best ski movies I've ever seen, and those guys are sick skiers. They choose to hit urban because they love it, no need to hate on their passion. Yeah there are a lot of risks, but it's up to the guys doing it, not some guy behind a computer screen. Seriously don't get how you could watch that and not have more positives to say than negatives

Not as hard as it seems. You've never done urban like these guys do. It's exhilirating once you get the shot. To some, 1 shot is worth 20 falls

you cant really tell people why they ski: for the lay skier it might just be about some abstract idea of fun and escape, but to some it is a serious pursuit that it is worth risking everything for. urban gets dangerous VERY quickly. there are plenty of urban skiers who send gnarly shit for their skill levels, these guys are just some of the best so they choose to go to these lengths to hit features and get shots that will represent their lifelong pursuit.

I watched it, loved it. Pretty sure it was Sean who said that "you only have so much time to get all these shots"." they could find similar rails, but that could take much longer.

I totally get it conceptually, but the way I think about it is, just be happy some people are willing to go after it like they do. Even if i rode at their level there's no way I would do what they do. Way too dangerous and scary.

Luckily they still have the drive to go hit stuff that I would only day dream about so I still get to see it done.....!

not to mention that almost everything in skiing, but especially urban, looks so much smaller and safer on camera. ive checked out a ton of the spots that have been in their movies cause i live in boston and it's crazy how different they look in real life. shit that in the movie looked merely "pretty ballsy" makes your stomach drop when you walk up to it and really make yourself imagine hitting it

I agree for the most part, but I don't think it is helpful to say what skiing should be for everyone. I guess that urban skiing brings the Stept guys more long term satisfaction than a season spent in the park at a resort, or they wouldn't do it.

I just think that these guys are taking it to a sketchy level where I found myself more scared for them rather than enjoying it and having fun watching the segments in movies such as less or small world by level 1.
