External Recorder for the fs700?

Just seeing what people on here use for the fs700, or if you guys actually use the avchd codec.
I'm in the market for an external recorder, but it doesn't have to be able to record 4k. I don't want the huge panasonic recorder, and I've seen the Q7 but it's pretty pricey. I've heard of people using the Atomos Ninja? Is there anything else anyone could recommend that will record a better codec? Also, has anyone tried the atoms shogun? I heard with the new firmware update its compatible with the fs700, anyone tried this out?
Thanks!

my roommate last year uses the Q7 and the seeing the quality of the raw 4k clips definitely made the price tag seem worth it, its unreal. Also the 1080 240p in camera kinda looks like ass and the recorder helps a ton with that, including getting rid of the 8 second limit. If your gonna get a recorder might as well do it right IMO

Yea, I have an Odyssey 7Q for my FS7 and it's worth ever penny. The 7Q+ is a great upgrade, making it compatible with nearly every camera system available to date.
Convergent Design is also very hands on and aware of consumer issues and desires, constantly releasing new hardware and making the recorder not only increase in value, but more importantly not fall behind.
It will make your FS700 worth holding onto for a while longer. Without it, the FS700 is reaching its end IMO.
Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, I didn't know the q7 could record longer than 8 seconds in slomo....decisions decisions...will probably end up getting the q7 eventually.
