Yo, I've never skied North Carolina (app ski mtn, beach) before. I've always gone to the Rockies. Planning on moving to Boone for school and wondering what it's like up there? How's the community?

The ski community is really small here but everyone's pretty cool. It's nothing like the Rockies though. App ski mountain has the largest park scene but only has about 300 ft of vert and is about 15 minutes from Boone. Beech is 40 to 50 minutes from Boone, has a good park and 850 ft of vert. Sugar Mountain is 30 minutes from Boone and has about 1200 ft of vert But the park is small and not well maintained. There's also Cataloochee which is 2-1/2 hours away and snowflex which is 4 hours away if you want to ski in the off season.

Hey bro. I went to school in NC, skied at App. Kids there slay. It might be small, but it's a lot of fun.

I ski at App. Lots of kids here who are good skiers. Park scene at App is by far the best in the area, Beech is probably number two. Sugar has the most skiable acres in the area but basically no park. For park definitely go to App, and park is all we really have around here, so come to App. Everyone sort of knows each other up here and everyone is pretty friendly. Obviously, its extremely small compared to resorts in the Rockies. Sugar and Beech probably get a little over 100 inches of snow a year. If you have any more questions feel free to ask me.

The ski community is small but dedicated. Those who do, do it passionately. The conditions are pretty bad, usually slush and/or ice, but that just forces you to be creative with what you do!
