Now hearing that it could be as high as 30 - Unknown what the hell is going on.

Several explosions (possibly grenades) around the Stade de France, where there is a match going on. Two gunmen performing drive-by shootings with AK-47s, while 5 or 6 gunmen in the Northeast of downtown. There is also a hostage situation being reported. The incident is ongoing.

What the fuck is going on. This is horrific.

*DUMBCAN*I was trying to find you on facebook yesterday. I too have been checking with all my friends in Paris, fortunately most of them were away at the time (one staying with me here in Shef. He's shocked, left to go home a few hours ago).

On that note, I think I'm gonna avoid facebook for the next week. I really don't want to read everyone's opinions on muslims again. Anyone who tries to manipulate these events for political gain can fuck right off.

Thanks for trying to contact me, warms my heart :) I have been on facebook all day, trying to talk some sense to anyone posting anti musulman and violent comments, not for them tbh, don't really care what they think, but for those who might not really know much about the conflicts and start to think like them because of such posts.
Ive been seeing mostly moderate discussions though, and overall a much better reaction than after the january attacks. Ill probably go off too at some point, cant let the terrorist change our way of life, we must go on happy and peaceful as ever for those who died, and to win this fight.

Its not rocket science that when you have unregulated, permeable borders undesirables are going to get in. Expect this stuff to increase throughout Europe. You can live in a fantasy world all you want and wish it away but these people are the worst of the worst and of course they'll capitalize.

You live in the US, you only border mexico and Canada (which is a stable country) ffs. You think you can really prevent terrorists to come in our country by what, closing the shengen zone? They come from countries outside of it, you can't build a fucking wall.

And even if we could, the kouachi brothers from 7th of january were french, and so are 3 terrorists from yesterday. How is closing the borders gonna keep them out?
Radical measures wont do shit. Education is what we need, and political stability.

We're not saying its going to fix the problem and no one will ever get hurt again, but it'll help, and its a start. safety of your own country first then you can start to care about others. this will start to be the norm around Europe.

But seriously, not having deals with some of the worst perpetrators is a good start. I mean Canada just made a multi-billion dollar arms deal with the Saudis, a country with one of the worst human rights records (due to their Muslim ideologies) and who directly fund ISIS and other terrorist organizations with money, arms, and personnel. Total economic sanctions is definitely a good start. Problem is, we love our oil more than we love human rights so that will never happen.


They paid us with the money you gave them for oil, same money that funds Isis, then you turned your noses up at our oil.

I mean the worst aftershock to yesterday will be all those uneducated who do not understand the origins and implication of the middle east conflicts to having thoughts at the back of their heads. And again with all the religion bullshit, creating more tensions. The terrorists were french ffs, not invaders from another country. French. and they didn't always think like this. They were convinced, they had no education, they played too much killing games.

Well ISIS is in part a creation of the west. Obama has stated, that we trained, armed and funded ISIL. ISIS was utilized as a catalyst to destabilize Syria for easier exploitation. As the main goal of western powers is and has always been to oust Assad, which would be a very grave and detrimental mistake if the west chooses to do so. Remember, theres always a single faction funding both sides of a war. War is good profit for a very small minority and the US government for quite sometime has wanted boots on the ground in Syria. PROBLEM, REACTION, SOLUTION.

this was yet another despicable act of violence that no sane interpretation of the major religons would condone. Unfortunately there are a whole bunch of disaffected youth looking to join a cause, give purpose to their life and belong to a family. In the US those people are poor black youth and they have gangs. In the middle east it is the poor kids and they have radical islam led by a charismatic imam.

Thats the problem. ISIS has created a whole new paradigm of extremism, one that isn't centralized in a certain area. Should we choose to pursue ISIS at their root (Raqqa) we merely remove a cog in a massive, changing machine. The message ISIS is sending is one aimed at bringing sleeper extremists, for example, into action. ISIS has given them an outlet, a catalyst for action. What we need to do, is to somehow make extremism unpopular in the impoverished, downtrodden areas that foster it. Military intervention by itself merely invites more attacks by "vigilante" ISIS affiliates, who aren't officially sanctioned but feel closely tied to the group and seek to defend it. What needs to happen is a campaign aimed at showing youth and others who are prone to extremism that extremism is the worst possible route to diffuse their anger. They need to be educated on the true horror that it brings and the human cost. They must be shown that Islam, and religion in general, never calls for any action of this type, and that extremism violates the most basic doctrines of religion and humanity itself. They must be shown the deep, dark, evil that is modern extremism. Easier said than done, of course

Al-Shabbab killed 147 Kenyan university students today. Al-Shabbab is just as vicious as ISIS but flies under the radar in most of the main stream news sources.

Body count is also not the only way to judge how bad something is, hence the moral confusion surrounding Israel... but you're right, this stuff happens with unfortunate frequency and doesn't get as much attention when it doesn't happen in Paris.

Totally agree, but i don't see anything that makes this anymore tragic or disgusting than what it appears on the surface: more than a hundred innocent people people needlessly murdered in the name of ???

I think that a lot of people just never hear about these attacks. They're not typically on mainstream news, let alone not a lot of younger people watch mainstream news anymore, or television for that matter.

Can't blame the guy for being thrown off by the tragedy, and many people on this website weren't alive or weren't old enough to remember 9/11. His point he made was simply because he hasn't been informed of the other less mainstream attacks.

Such a tragic event. I pray for the victims and their loved ones.

Apparently, several arrests and raids have been made in Belgium in connection to a rental car that has been found at the scene of the crime in Paris, France. It’s also important to note that just a few days before the attack the director of the CIA and Mossad met with the French Security Chief, and it is also important to note that on July 7th 2015, 40 grenades, 180 detonators and plastic explosives were STOLEN from a French military base.

ISIS had also captured the Raqqa passport office in Syria two years ago. They had an unknown amount of unknown authentic blank Syrian passports, so keep that in mind.

I hope this event does not fuel the need for boots in Syria and Iraq. We are inching dangerously close towards WW3, not trying to spread fear but still.

All of these were reported on in mainstream media. All of them. only 1 was given a ton of coverage and considered a tragedy. That is disgusting.


This tragedy in Paris will be used to stir up support for intervention in syria and iraq, but because Boko Haram only kills and kidnaps black people no one gives a shit, and intervention in Africa would be met with horror from the US and EU.

I was just pointing to the fact that based on some of your previous posts in other threads where you defended the fact that some lives matter more than others, you have no credibility on the matter.

This is a fair question, and I think a good springboard for discussion. I don't have an opportunity to delve much into this right this moment, but I do have some thoughts about it.

Maybe less thoughts on actionable solutions, and more thoughts on the nature of the problem itself. Or rather, the causal factors for why it seems that in recent history Muslims have been responsible for a disproportionate amount of religious inspired violence.

I'll get back to this thread to clarify a bit further where I'm coming from.

We also start by electing leaders who want to win wars, not end them.

Hesitant on calling this the start of World War III, but many didn't even consider that the serb killing the arch duke would be the tipping point that started the worst conflict in modern human history. obviously emotions are running high and people are scared but an all-out conflict of that size would just make things worse, i think.

There needs to be a global retaliation. This includes countries like Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and any other neighbor that does't wan't ISIS to move in. If the U.S keeps going in alone and fucking up shit we are only going to fuel more hatred.
