Non-Centre Mount Volkl Walls

After skiing a set of centre mount Salomon Suspects into the ground I finally decided to scrape together my year's pay and spend it on a new pair of 2016 Volk Walls, with Marker Griffon bindings. The problem is, when I was getting my bindings mounted, I told the technician that I wanted by bindings centre mounted, he must have assumed that the Volkl reference point that said "boot centre" was the geometrical centre of the boot. Anyway, I'm now left with a symmetrical park ski which I plan to use in the park on rails and jibs that is mounted about 4-5" behind the full centre point of the ski. I hope this will not effect switch skiing, or jibbing, but if it does, is my only option to get the skis re-drilled? I don not have the Schizo version of the griffon, so what do I do? Pictures Below

Take them back to the shop, that's the technician's fault for assuming anything and not clarifying exactly what you wanted. The shop I use to work at would replace skis if the tech mis-mounted a brand new pair, so you may be able to get a new set since it's their bad. If not you can drill skis a couple of times as long as the holes aren't too close together

First of all avoiding the schizo series is a good decision IMO. You have a more solid drill!

I would go talk to the shop, explain the situation calmly, if they deny everything push them a bit. This is their mistake, and they should offer you a new pair. Drilling too many times can become a problem. A single re-drill shouldn't matter, but it's a brand new ski, and they should've gotten it right.

A shop did this to me as well, assuming the same thing. I avoided mounting my skis there this year, I even drive 45 exyta minutes 4 times 3 hours in all. I didn't actually notice until almost midway through the season until it was feeling a little funky for rails. I didn't go back because it wad a little late, and I was getting new skis anyway and these got to be pretty beat by then.
Go back to your shop, demand a new mount for free, and even a brand new ski for them to re drill

damn those '16 walls look soooo sexy. I have the '13 walls and have them centered, i'd take them back to the shop and make them remount

Devils advocate, but you still should have specified more. I like to draw where I want my mount when I get skis them mounted so there's no way the tech can fuck up

You would be fairly lucky to get a free remount. Unless you clearly specified core center with the tech and showed him exactly were you wanted them mounted, he didn't do anything wrong. One way to make sure they don't do anything for you is to go back to the shop and tell them that they owe you new skis and be a dick. Just be nice and maybe they are cool guys who won't mind helping you out. Other than that pay for a remount because nobody wants to ride walls at -4.

I dont understand why volkl bother putting anything other than a symmetric centre line on their full symmetric skis. It just confuses things for punters and techs, nobody in their right mind should be mounting a true symmetric park ski anything other than centre. If you're buying the wall as an all mountain ski you've made the wrong choice and there is certainly no point in mounting schizos on them, like who would want to go -6cm on a full symmetric park ski?

I had the exact same problem with my Walls. Ileft them to a company to get the bindings mounted and when they arrived they were 6cm back from centre.

Who would ever do that to a fully symmetric ski?

I have had them remounted since and can post a picture of the old holes later.

Any good tech would know to mount symmetrical skis centered. There is two local shops around me...one is miserable. They just crank bindings, etc out with no regards and have had gear fucked up there.

The other the tech actually comes up and talks to you. Talks about where he thinks you should mount relative to your skiing style, etc. Its great and worth the extra money.

I would go back to that store and demand a refund on skis or a new pair. Thats unacceptable. Any tech should know "center mount" especially on a symmetrical ski is dead center. If it wasn't symmetrical thats another story.

At the very least ask for a free remount and maybe throw a tune up in there. If it's going to leave a bunch of exposed holes on your new skis, you could even ask them for new skis.

No. Asking them for new skis is way too far. Get the holes filled, and move on.

If you got the skis elsewhere, then they should remount them free of charge, it's their mistake. But you need some sort of proof that it's their mistake - many shops will give you a workshop card which needs filling in so that they can work out your DIN settings etc. Without something like that it is unfortunately likely to be your word against theirs.

If you bought the skis in their store, and you are really bothered about getting the skis re-drilled, then you are completely entitled to push for a brand new set of skis. I've worked in a shop where someone drilled the skis incorrectly, and the customer insisted on a new pair, because the tech shouldn't have made the mistake.

As has been said, re-drilling them once doesn't really make any difference to the ski, so personally, unless you like your skis in perfect condition (and hey, why not if they're brand new!), I wouldn't be too bothered about it. but you should at the very least get them remounted free.

I have volkl ledges and schizos and they did this to me. Lucky since they are schizos i can adjust the bidning to the center. They actually mounted my schizos 100% center so the bidning is center if its in the middle of the plate. My ski shop guy was awful though because he didnt screw the screws all the way in and my heel plate on one ski moves up a good 2-4 mm off the ski. I dont want to over tighten the screws by doing it myself so im just leaving it be.

Thanks to everyone for the help, I've ended up getting them redressed to the +5 position for free. It looks a little weird with the holes (even though their plugged) but at least now I don't have to do a nose press all the time lol

I think it's retarded Volkl puts all these lines on their skis. They should make a true center mark, and a -20cm mark and that should be it. It's idiotic that they put like a freestyle recommended then all the way to -6. I wouldn't even ride my pow sticks their
