Tanner Hall... A freesking legend? A pioneer?
NO, Get recked. This dude is actually an obnoxious bully and asshole.

Sure, he's been successful both on the snow and in the industry.... But this and all of his marijuana injections have gone straight to his head. Tanner Hall is certainly someone who we as a community should not look up to or speak profoundly of.

There are endless examples of Tanner taking things too far and making unlogical claims. He has a lack of brains, empathy and integrity. Roasting ski racing as 'easy' and calling out pro park skiers for their 'rollerblading style' through the park is wrong on so many levels.

Whatever the case... I hope his ankles are rebroken and stay broke forever so that he cannot continue to taint our snow, our community and our image as a sport. Red Bull made the right call in dropping their sponsorship, now its our turn.

It would be far enough to call me a bully for roasting tanner, but someone had to speak up. On a side note, has anyone else noticed that his computer has been stuck on caps-lock for ages?

I like Tanner, and I don't tend to feel offended about his comments, sometimes he definitely says what a lot of people are thinking. But let's be honest, he's not exactly kind to people that disagree with him or make fun of him, which is also slightly ironic since he like to do that to other people.

By the way, I don't think of this as a sport, to me it's a lifestyle and a culture. Whether or not I offer anything to this culture, I'll let others be the judge of that.

Please go watch Like a Lion. Didn't read the rest of the thread, but I immediately thought of a quote from Iberg that directly relates to what you are trying to say. Something along the lines of, Tanner Hall is not a role model. If you want to be a professional skier and dominate the sport, follow him closely. However, he does not fit the orthodox profile of what we view as a "role model". Tanner has done so much for the freeskiing community. He's a fucking boss and doesn't give a shit what others think. i mean sure he's had a struggle in his life . but haven't we all struggled in our own way? it just so happens that maybe he's a bit of an self centered asshole i agree with that. i also think that he did revolutionize skiing and all of it. he's pretty childish though gotta say pretty immature guy that needs to settle down somewhere and just chill.

the man skis for a living, and that is not something that is noble or role model worthy… and if you do think he's some kind of saint then just do the world a favour and read a book on actual influential people in the world.

Also, for the record, he seems like a really shallow and insecure dude who had to face adversity for being a skier early on…BUT then he goes on to bash rollerblading which is actually quite literally a father to skiing… and the blatant attacks just show how he is trying wayyyy too hard to seem cool and wayyyy to scared to be identified as an 'outsider' based on the perception that blading is for 'outsiders'… talk about trying to be cool totally backfiring.

Lastly, to the dude who said everyone is a pussy - you are probably the most right, but if you think that, then you have more in common with Hall than you realize, and that DOES NOT make you cool. Haters gon' hate, as they say.

…and I know how hard some of you try to push this "I'm so cool" agenda (or most popular: I do tricks on skis therefore it is expected of me to think and act like an uneducated baboon)… especially behind keyboard, but it's kinda sad how people act fake because all they think about is how other people perceive them on a constant basis.

Tanner is not a role model, and never claimed he was, nor tried to be. He's just a very, very accomplished skier of note. He's interesting and polarizing. He's incredibly talented.

That being said, I do think that the sport of skiing could have had more popularity had he been a better role model and a better spokesperson for the sport. Look at what Shawn White has done for snowboarding. It has way more mass market appeal. Shawn got tutored by none other than Tony Hawk. He is well spoken, doesn't write in all caps, doesn't go around bashing other fellow snowboarders, etc. Lots of young impressionable kids have started snowboarding because of him and he truly has done more for the sport of snowboarding than anyone that has been alive. People who don't snowboard or ski know who Shawn White is. That cannot be said of Tanner Hall.

Now maybe mainstream is not the goal of skiing. But you can't deny that we once had a rising star that could have helped the popularity of skiing in Tanner Hall, but he could not be a role model for whatever reasons.

But hey! It's just skiing. It's just sliding around on snow on two sticks, and I for one absolutely love it and would still love it had Tanner never been born.

Unless you know him personally you shouldn't be saying anything. Personally I think Tanner is a legend and yea he might have some outburst but that him just telling the world how he feels. He doesn't have a filter and thats what i like about him. Tanner Hall could punch me in the face at my own birthday party and i'd still give the fucker a loot bag. He started and revolutionized the sport we all love and that deserves a certain level of respect. Without him I probably would never have even started skiing in the first place so I couldnt care less if he says some obnoxious stuff on the internet.

Tanner never asked people to look up to him. He skis where and how he wants to ski. He is one of the few people willing to make criticisms where he sees fit about a sport that is designed around expression. You don't see people who criticize movies getting shit on by the movie community because they speak their mind. He is simply speaking his beliefs; so if you don't like him don't look up to him. Everybody has the right to say what they want or look up to who they wanna look up to.

Yeah I remember seeing that back when it happened and completely agreeing with him. Like if you can't actually get a grab and have to use a green screen for it, should you even be a pro skier? Like that's literally what your profession is, its what you're paid to do. A little ridiculous to me

I would say Freeskiing doesn't need any role models, but it does. It needs the anti-typical role models to bring it back to the sports origins. all this pussy academy rich kid raise me in a nice environment shit. that's why our sport is losing character. it went full circle back to structure.

Saying he's not a legend or a pioneer? get fucked. you obviously didn't grow up freeskiing in the 90s and early 2000s when it took people like Tanner to pave the way.

I think Thall is first and foremost a pipe skier, at least on a competitive level, but when was he last in the pipe? Any backcountry results to see...

At least Candide won stuff in the backcountry, even if it was just for one year.

But, if people want a role model in snowsports they should look to guys who made it competitively in some aspect and then moved into business ownership. Mr White's been excellent at that, but Slytech and Amplid also come to mind. That'd make for more interesting reading than another Tanner bashing post. No one can do everything perfectly.
