Will we ever have another McConkey?

Just wanted to put this out there: McConkey is a legend of skiing full stop. But will we ever have another ripper like him in skiing? Do we have one now? Will it be a dude hitting jumps that becomes the face of it rather than a big mountain sender or some other form of skiing?

Was McConkey one of a kind?

Just wanna hear some thoughts, chur.

Glenn Plake. He's who McConkey looked up to. He just happens to still be alive (thankfully cause he's rad as shit). I think it's a generational thing though... Ski media wasn't the same as it was in the 80's/90's when he really took off. McConkey became as popular as he did in part to all of the technology that was coming out during his prime and the increasing popularity of ski movies.

Watch some Greg Stump films... you will understand.

NOT saying that he is at the same level as McConkey was but you have to give T Hall some credit the dude is a living legend and can/has done it all

It would be tough. McConkey was still an incredible big mountain skier when he passed. The park part of the sport had passed him by, but in the mountains he was still amazing.

The other part of this was the way he innovated equipment. Could anyone have predicted in 2000 that we would get rocker and 5 dimensional skis? I was a ski bum living in Tahoe in 2000 and I thought that fat skis with traditional camber were the end of the evolution line. Boy was I wrong. I don't know if anyone will innovate in the way Shane did, remember that we all started skiing fat skis because of him, but who knows. I can't conceive of a new design revolution, but I could not have conceived of the Spatula either, so maybe there is something else out there.

Yeah ive seen some of those boys abdolutely ripping it, scot Schmidt etc... but i agree there ay, mcConkey was pretty much in the ideal spot in time for becoming who he was.

Respect to the legend himself.

Hell I'll make the argument saying we havent even seen the best Tanner has to show us. His BC/big mountain game is unlike anything I've seen anybody do before. Hes gonna push the limits on that end of skiing farther than anybody has before and I cant wait to see it.

Man for sure thall is a fucking wizard in the back country. I haven't seen skiing like that ever from anyone else. Ring the alarm will be absolutely ground breaking, no doubt about it

Mcconkey was one of a kind. Great guy, great skier, and was never afraid to push the envelope. He pretty much just lived in the moment, and best of all, he didn't obsess over sponsors.

Bottom line, there will never be another Shane Mcconkey.

The best part is that Mcconkey gave us a lot of that ski tech. I don't think we'll ever see another person like him
