Last night Alex Schlopy posted a photo to Instagram in regards to Gus coming out and then another backing his so-called "controversial" original post. I saw a lot of people arguing on the post about how Schlopy was being disrespectful and his post wasn't fair to Gus. Personally I think Schlopy has every right to say what he said and don't think he had any bad intentions, but some people apparently disagree with that. Just curious what other people are thinking here

I agree, Schlopy just speaking his mind and I actually agree with what he said. I really wanna hear from some of the people who disagree and think Schlopy was out of place saying this, I don't understand their reasoning for it.

I actually feel the same way schlopy is feeling and thought Gus was using this to get him more publicity. Glad someone said it. I support Gus and definitely don't think he came out as gay just for publicity but he's definitely using it to his advantage right now. Strange situation...

Schlopy posting this is akin to the people saying the its 2015 and Gus had no business publicly coming out the way he did. It seems that Gus did this so that he could be publicly true to himself and be a model for someone in the community who is struggling with coming out, the fact that there is so much attention is because this is (clearly) still a controversial subject to some people.

All the shirtless photos and nonsense since seem like someone celebrating a great personal achievement, next time someone posts about finally getting that trick they've been working on all season I'll make sure to call them out for building themselves up.

hmmmm... ok let's dissect this.

The whole post is him pumping up Gus's tires, congratulating him and what not, affirming to us that he's a chill dude and he's totally cool with Gus.

But masked in the middle of all the props he drops his intended message:

"I do not like how you used your coming out to build yourself up even more"

That's incredibly broad. What does he mean by that? Does he think Gus taking advantage of this new social climate, and giving himself and edge publicity wise over everyone else? Does he feel like Gus has been promoting himself too hard on social media as it is with the celebrity Instagram cameos, and adopting puppies? Does he believe a skiers fame should be strictly attributed their skiing ability, and Gus is already ahead of everyone there?

We don't know, cause Schlopy didn't really take the time to explain what he meant. He was too busy brown nosing so we wouldn't call him homophobic.

All in all, this is dumb on so many levels. If he's your bro give him a call and tell him to check his ego. Instagram is a medium for attention seekers and shit disturbers, not rational discussion.

This reminds me of when Macklemore posted his text to Kendrick apologizing for winning a grammy. Like seriously are we THAT self involved now that we think the world cares about this sort of shit. It's such bad taste to broadcast this kind of stuff.

I don't see why Gus Kenworthy would need to use the whole being gay thing to gain attention. He was one of America's golden boys in the podium sweep thing and with his puppies he was probably the one with the most media attention. Whatever though, the Guy shreds and now we know he likes men. The reason that is stupid is that whoring yourself out IS the way you pay the bills in skiing. Shilling for sponsors, shilling at events, building your social media presence, etc. Schlopy does it just like every other Tom, Dick and Dickhead does. So Schlopy is in the wrong because how is this different than his pretty boy Paul Mitchell endorsement deal? You think edollo thinks that Paul Mitchell is core?

BUT the funny thing is how Gus seems to be even more of a bitch than his arch-rival Goepper. Goepper seems to have actually taken the criticism to heart and dialed it back, came out with a pretty solid edit and isn't working shit as much as he used ot. That's the hilarious thing. It seemed like Gus was totally calling Goepper out forever about being such a event-whore and then Gus has the whole "puppy thing" and then what Schlopy is calling him out for.

It is tough to criticize though. These guys aren't NFL players with franchise tags and guaranteed contracts. Every year they are pounding the pavement to get endorsements, gear and money from wherever they can. Gus is definitely working the system as best he can, but I think the funny thing is he set his sights on dogging Goepper and I think Gus is actually worse than Goepper on the publicity whoring.

Yo has anyone seen the comments on Gus's photos recently? Starting to see less and less support and more homophobic 12 year olds. It's like a bunch of mini frenchys.

On this issue though, how could he have come out not publicly..? And I mean people blow everything out of proportion. When I got to hang with him he was a chill dude and he fucking killed it. That's all that matters for me. I don't look at him in any different way because he came out.

Tbh People just like to have something not so controversial be controversial just so they have something to focus their short insignificant attention spans on for a moment

Regardless of what Schlopy's opinion was, that's his beef with Gus and it's not really meant to be put on Instagram IMO. Alex and Gus' insta followers that don't know them personally aren't aware of what goes on in their friendship, thus shit can get taken the wrong way/context. From my perspective, I didn't need to see that in my feed. If Alex felt that opinion on Gus so strongly, he should have called him up or sent him a text or something (if they're as "great" of friends as Alex says they are. I'm not even really for or against either side, but these are just my thoughts.

This is pretty dumb reason to call someone out- Gus literally has no control over how people reacted to his coming out and furthermore, the invitations he has received since all this hit headlines are impossible to pass up, he has been afforded a lot of great opportunities recently. Everyone needs to remember that this is an Olympic athlete who took home a medal for the states, something that has never been done in this discipline before. AND THEN, he publicly announces that he is gay, an incident that rarely happens in the professional sports scene, let alone the extreme sports scene. In this day and age, of course there will be a huge reaction from the public, the media feeds off of this.

I think it's a case Schlopy being a little bit jealous that his homie is starting to make it big- and I'm not talking about the freestyle scene, Gus is fringing on celebrity at this point.

...I mean what? Fucking... that's something you say to someone's face when you have the real story, not in a public social media bullshit drama post. The entire rest of the post is tarnished hard from that one line.

Basically I see it as "I love you man, you're my boy, but I also really just want to call you out publicly for whatever reason, but i'm going to also hide behind all of this gobbly-gook I love you man you're my boy crap."

I mean, what was the point of calling him out over it? are you upset that he's getting off-season attention for being gay? That's not Gus's fault as much as it is how the media fawns over these type of coming out parties - which shouldn't be a big deal, obviously.. but they are because 10-15 years ago they'd have been unheard of, and mainstream america still hasn't adjusted.

OK fine, he had the whole ESPN article coming out party thing that got a ton of attention, but who cares? What was he supposed to do? come out about it publicly and act cold about it? Was he supposed to come out about it in a newschoolers thread? lol. What would that have done? Better yet, I would ask Schlopy dude... what would YOU have done in the same situation.

That wasn't present-day Schlopy. That was future Schlopy trying to stop his Mom from sleeping with Hoodcrew. Part of it required a trip back from the future to follow Gus in the present or else the entire future of mankind would be in jeopardy.

If my calculations are correct, when Schlopy's in-run reaches a speed of 88 miles an hour...you're going to see some serious shit.

There was a skier who died recently and in one of the threads I said he skied sloppily.

(in fact, to me he looked like a flying bowl of spaghetti)

I ended up with a note from the head mod, and a lot of downvotes. Words can hurt, but I think also people choose to stir up conflict just for the sake of conflict - no matter how diplomatic or sensitive you are -- in fact the more you are diplomatic, the more people will feed off that.

Also, I think sometimes controversial messages should just be stated outright.

"I think the kid skied real sloppily. The end."

"I'm 101% homosexual. Let's move on."

"I do not like how you used your coming out to build yourself up. So what."

So the idea is to remove the fluff language around it, to limit the ensuing debate.

Okay are you kidding me. Gus is dealing with one of the hardest things in his life right now and he's coping with it differently than Schlopy would like. Immature little dick.
