Heya Newschoolers.
I am getting pretty salty everytime a local store in my green flat nation charges me way too much for simply having my two skis waxed, and when i ask them to leave the wax on the bases, they still manage to scrape it off for some reason.
SO, THE TIME HAS COME! Better spend a few € on an iron and some wax.
About me : Decent skier rocking a Volkl Speedwall GS (not FIS standard, recreational stiff piste killer), got 100-120 days down last season but will only hit 20-30 the next years. I like to show my gear some love every now and then. But my skis were had a stonegrind and had base bevels reset at the end of last season.
I'll be waxing (not tuning, yet) and want to do it better and cheaper (which i believe is possible?) than the average shop which is quite expensive where i live. Which tools will i need? There is no way i'll be getting vises, but i will come up with another solution.
For waxing irons i've found a swix waxing iron (
http://www.blue-tomato.com/en-GB/product/Swix-Waxing+Iron+220V-301723695-red/ ) which sells for 55 bucks. I also found a Wintersteiger iron that is quite a bit cheaper, but i've read some pretty bad things about this iron.
Would i be able to use a very normal nylon brush? Does it have to be a ski specific one? Cause i can get brushes pretty cheap from where i work.
What wax would i want to get? Some all purpose wax for summer storage and some fluoro wax for during the season? Found several models :
http://www.blue-tomato.com/en-GB/product/Swix-F4+Block+Universal+Fluor+Wax+180g-300965645-no+color/ Universal Fluor wax 28 USD.
http://www.blue-tomato.com/en-GB/product/Swix-Racing+Wax+Blue+180g-300965647-blue/ Some other swix wax, 16 USD.
http://www.blue-tomato.com/en-GB/product/Toko-NF+Hot+Wax+red+120g-300749120-red/ Some Toko non fluoro wax 13 USD.
Am i looking in the right direction? If it's worth it i will probably pay the 28 USD for the 180g brick, but i prefer to stay away from the very expensive (?) high fluoro waxes. I guess i won't need these as i will not be racing competetively?
What do i need and what should i stay away from? If possible, i would love to get examples from
http://www.blue-tomato.com/en-GB/products/categories/Snowboard-00000000--Tuning-0000000P--Wax-0000000Q/ as i'll place one order from there, and i am probably able to find a discount coupon somehow. I live in Europe, so American links doesn't help a ton :/
Thanks thanks thanks in advantage, major +K to any kind of help!
