crotchventI usually go with the recommended mounting position because that is where the ski was designed to have the binding mounted.
If that were the case, park skis wouldn't be recommended at 6 cm back like most of them are. Recommended mount is usually for novice and intermediate skiers that won't have any advantage mounting their bindings further forward. Basically, recommended is simply a guideline that ultimately should not determine how you mount your skis. Try different positions, if you have the means to do so, and mount at your preference. Directional performance will always be sacrificed for freestyle performance by moving the binding forward. There is no right or wrong answer. Also, from my experience, the difference between true center and 1 or 2 m is quite negligible. So you should feel some improvement in the trees and such with no real difference in how they feel while switch or spinning. I'd say give it a try.
