Cheap goggles

so ive been looking at goggles lately and ive came up with two conclusions: 1. i really like Dragons and Oakleys and 2. they are really expensive. so ive been looking at cheap nock-offs such as the ones below($15), but i was wondering how you guys feel about this and if i should just spend more money for the better brands.

spend the money on a good pair and wear them for a few seasons. goggles are one thing that i don't like to go cheap on, love my iox's

Please invest in some good goggles. I think you can still get a pretty decent out of goggles (especially on a site) than using some $15 knockoffs. Goggles are pretty important as the lenses themselves add peripheral vision and believe me, it's awesome, anti fog and most of all, clarity. Spend $80 on a sale from a site like evo and you got yourself a decent pair of goggles, but like his comment above, spend a little extra and have an awesome pair to lay you for a few seasons. It's one of those circumstances that the more money you put up front, the better the turnout and the longer the last, therefore, saving you money. Good luck!

I got a pair of $20 knock off Aura's from China and they are great quality. The only thing I'm skeptical about is what has been said. The lens quality. They look fantastic and are comfy but once I start skiing I'll be able to decide if the lenses are actually quality, and if I want to go back to my good goggles. Goggles are never a bad thing to spend a little extra on though.

Buy a pair of good goggles, not a knockoff. If you want some cool goggles. Rudy Project USA has some good goggles.

Buy used off of here, i saved over a 100 bucks on a pair of smith iox's and couldnt be more stoked. This is my 3rd season with them and theyve held up great. Got them for 80 dollars shipped with 3 lenses.


Or see if somebody with a proform is nice enough to order a pair for you.

Also they have discount goggles on The Clymb, too. All for a great deal without paying for a shitty pair of knock-off goggles.

Search and you shall find. I got a pair of Nike fade goggles off of amazon for around $100 and was not disappointed. They came with 2 lenses, 2 bags and a hard shell case. Here are the exact goggles.

I used them in the alps with all sunny days and they worked great.

Just bought the yellow ones from evo for $109 and it was a complete buy. Couldn't pass them up. Excited to see how they work out and I'm sure you feel the same. They're clean.

actual brand name goggles are on sale all the time, just check the outdoor sports outlet sites (evo, backcountry, steepandcheap, etc)

you can get last years models for super cheap, under 60 bucks for a lot of them

I just got these and used them on saturday. DO NOT put them on top of your head or else they will fog up and never unfog. If you keep them on your face theyre pretty good. Also + style points for the cat strap

The problem is, all you are doing is supporting some factory in china and not the company's that are doing the design and research. Smith, Oakley, Dragon and such spend tons of money developing the best optics and style while still supporting the sport. Along comes a factory that sends some mid level worker to SIA. They take some pictures of the new frames and make a mold. Slap in some super cheep optically incorrect lenses and pass them off at a cheep price. Not only are you stealing form the companies that put the time and money into development but also from our industry itself. I know we all like to support the small guy but keep in mind each one of the core companies started off small too. They got big because of good product and supporting the sports they service. Key words, Cheep is not necessarily better.

Beyond the quality issues, here are some questions to think about..
-What skiers or ski athletes do the knock-off brands support? Snowboard athletes?
-What events, magazines/websites, movies or edits do the knock-off brands support?
-Are they authentic? Is there any soul? How long has the brand been involved with the kind skiing you are a fan of? Did they just decide to flip a switch overnight and claim to be supportive of skiing?

After considering all that, would you give money to a knock-off brand? The future of skiing is yours to define and support, and you vote with your dollars.

...and then there's the quality issues.

just want to emphasize what others are saying

i know goggles are expensive, but theyre one of the few things in skiing you really just shouldn't cheap out on ever. find a deal on a good pair from a name brand, and keep them for a few seasons. hell, you can at least get some low-mid level smiths or something for pretty cheap

just get a cheaper google from smith, Oakley, etc. If you get the cylindrical goggles that are cut from a blank (not the stamped kind), they will be a lot cheaper than the spherical ones, and they will still work pretty well.

yeah i just want to reiterate how shitty goggles can ruin an otherwise amazing day. especially on a storm day or something, youre going to really be pissed at yourself when youre shouting at your buddies to wait up because you can't see 20 feet in front of you, all cause you saved 30 dollars a few months ago

Seriously just do this. I've had my Oakley splices foreverrrrr (going on 5 or 6 years) and have always taken good care of them and kept them in a hard case and they never fog and there's no scratches, just some pilling on the strap. Just buy a good pair and have maybe 3 lenses and you're good. I have a dark lens for sunny days, persimmon for overcast, and ruby clear for night

First off yea defiantly spend more that. $15. Go up to about 50. I found a pair of Spy Marshals (150$ normal) for $65 with shipping at the end of the season when they have low key deals to get last years stuff out for summer

Spend some money in the long run if you take care of them it will be better.
I have a pair of giro blok goggles and for me the biggest thing with them was clarity the clarity with them was absolutely amazing they made me feel like i was seeing more clear with them then without them. They are cylindrical lens though, so people say they dont have as much peripheral vision but I found mine to be fine. If you cant find anything else on the internet there is some amazing deals on ns in sell and trade.

I worry about the quality of knock-offs when it comes to something meant to protect the more fragile parts of my body. I’m still super cheap though. If you’re willing to spend a little over 15, the smith cascade has never given me any issues and is $30.
