Oakley Flight Deck VS. Smith I/O X

I am between these two goggles for this season. If someone could run down the differences and similarities that would be awesome! Who makes better quality lenses?

In my opinion the only feature you need to know about is how much better the prizm lens is then just about anything else.

You ahould if course try them and see what fits but the prizm lens is so much better then anything smith currently have in my opinion.

I agree with tom. The Prizm lens is by far my favorite lens I own.

What is the prizm lens? I see it on a lot of Oakleys but I don't get what it is

I'm not going to lie I don't totally get it, but a bit like polirized lens cut glare, the prizm cuts certain light colours.

It means basically that you get far more depth. I took up a black iridium Oakley lens and the prizm rose and took a photo through both and even on a phone you could see the difference but I can't find those images unfortunatly.

They also work really well in a variety of conditions. Most low light lenses suck when it's bright, but the prizm rose, I used, worked as well in really white out conditions as it did in pretty clear skies. I also tried the black prizm and it was awesome on bright days but personaly I would go for the rose or jades as they are so versatile. There is also a blue this season, but I have not tried that.

Huh, interesting. Thanks for the answer. I've also seen sandbox's goggles and they're bringing a transitional lens this year. Cool idea and to my knowledge the first ski goggle with that. But, it's super expensive and if they're anything like the transitional lenses glasses I had when I was mucho younger, they probably aren't all that great.

That was pretty irrelevant but whatever

I need to try the Prizm but I've heard the opposite from a number of people here and theres some pretty indepth reviews on TGR that suggest the Smith ones more than hold their own and better the Prizm for some people. I have the blue sensor mirror and igniter mirror on mine having moved away from Oakley last season as I fancied a change.

Like everything it can be subjective and I will borrow my mates when were in the alps next and if they are better I will ditch the smiths.

Both goggles are really solid, I own a pair of iox's. I'd take the pair that fits your face and helmet best, but you can't go wrong with either pair.

Theres enough frame options form both companies to make a simple of choice of which lens works best for you. My IO/X's fit my face and helmet far better than my Crowbars do, my massive noise tends to be an issue with some Oakley frames.

Have the iox. Works well if there's enough ventilation. I wear glasses and they tend to fog up worse on the right side due to the vent being only on the left. I use the photochromatic lenses most of the time expensive but seems to be pretty versatile. Only shitty thing is scratching them on your first day using them. Doh!

Currently wearing the I/OX and havent had the best luck with them fogging up. I put on a pair of flight decks at my local shop the other day and the range of vision is much better in my opinion. Going to get rid of my smiths and go with the oaks this year. Hope this helps.

I currently use hi yellow for the worst days and get back with dark grey for part cloudy or sunny. is the prizm rose significantly better for real flat/low light?

I prefer the prizm. it gives a little more depth in really flat conditions and think but the big advantage is it's still good if it clears up. A hi yellow in clear skies sucks.

how about size FD vs I/O X
i have a big face and need a big goggle to feel comfy, only goggle i`ve found suiting is the Spy platoon, but ive scratched my lenses badly and a replacement lens is just as expensive as buying a set of new platoons off of ebay:p

I rode the I/O X this past season with a green sensor mirror, and red sol-x lens. Coming from splices i loved them and the larger frame. I did however take a run on a very sunny day with my friend's flight decks to compare and can say i was very impressed. I forget the lens he had, but the depth and perception I had were awesome. It almost seemed like the Prizm lens gave everything a more defined edge our outline if that makes sense. I'm happy with my I/O X as the shape fit my helmet/face better since the flight deck is HUGE, however the Prizm lens was a step up in my opinion.

Thanks for all the responses! The talk about the prism lens is super helpful. I think I am going to go with the flight decks.
