I have been to Windells twice and thought it was cool how you got to become friends with someone to find out that they weren't always a skier!
That is something we have no intention of changing
Skiers and boarders will still be able to ride and hangout together on and off-hill, the only really difference is that we now WIndells will have a park dedicated to skiing.
Windells what about the park crew? Still keeping it all snowboarding? (I know its not exclusively for snowboarders but its more or less an unwritten rule)

I see this everywhere in th3 Midwest. It's more of a trending unwritten rule at other places as well. Maybe not summer camps, but the majority of places near me are all or almost all boarders on park crew.

Good question.
Traditionally the park crew has been all snowboarders, with a few skiers every now and again. This year we will be having a ski dig crew, and will have the chance to provide jobs to far more skiers than in previous years.
Posted this in the article but I'll repost it. Fuck it.
I've never been to windells so I'm not 100% sure what it's like there but I have gone to the Snowflex camp. During coaching sessions you're pretty much with just other skiers and your coach(who obviously skis) and yeah there are snowboarders around you but you aren't doing a ton of interacting with them.
My friend is a snowboarder and I went there with her. On hill, we weren't together during coaching sessions but we did get to ride together during night sessions. Didn't I read that there is a shared park, halfpipe, and bag jump..? Why is there so much fuss. If skiers and boarders want to ride together I see a pretty nice opportunity there. And they can hang out off-hill as well.
At snowflex, there was a heavy emphasis on snowboarding. First day there they introduced all these pro snowboarders and a guest snowboard crew. Which was cool, but there was no recognition for the ski coaches... They're great coaches, I think most of them are considered "am" not really sure but there was not a single ski coach recognized which was kind of lame in my opinion.
From what I've read theres like a 2:1 ratio of skiers and snowboarders there(similar to snowflex)... It absolutely makes sense to have those boarders go to high cascade where they can be coached by the best. And this gives Windells more room to hire more(potentially better) ski coaches for the skiers. And it will ideally bring all the boarders to High Cascade so they can also make their programs better with better coaches and all that.
Sure you don't get the mix, but you still have off-hill things and those shared parks. They aren't completely segregating skiing vs. snowboarding. In my opinion they're doing something pretty dope for coaching each sport and then bringing together everyone off hill. But that's just how I see it.
I know a snowboard only park would have lots of flat lips and pole jams, but what kind of stuff goes into a skier only park that makes it unique to skiing?
i think people are exaggerating the separation of the skiers and snowboarders. They may have two different parks, but there is also a shared park and shared lifts i believe. Its not gonna be like two different sides of mt hood, with barbed wire in between.
BungHole.I must be out of the loop. Can someone give me the run down on what's happening?
basically windells is now a "dedicated skier park" place now. They will share some facilities with high cascade but they now have a skier only park. Apparently all non-winter sports are staying the same and off hill activities aren't changing
FROGGINBULLFISHi'm curious as to what a "skier park" entails

easy features that require little to no technicality or pop
MinggI think a lot of people forget Momentum is ski only and they're doing just fine...
Coming from someone who went to momentum, it's not nearly as good as coc. Bunch of over competitive jocks only concerned with landing their next dub and not worrying about fun, whereas coc is always a good vibe

It's not about success, Windells will do just fine as far as business goes. Most are just concerned and frustrated and see this as We Are Camp forcing something to change that's not broken and doesn't need to be changed.

IDK why you don't like this??? It just means Windells will not have any more features skiers can't hit and the lips onto the rails won't be so freakin low because thats how snowboarders like them. And snowboarders always suck at the trampolines when I go there and waiting for them sucks. Last year I was trying to learn backflip 360s but couldn't because so many snowboarders were there trying to do stupid front flips.

Things don't have to be broken to be improved though, no?
I mean I get that a lot of people ski with other boarders. My best friend is a snowboarder and I love riding with her. I get it. But everyone saying "this is segregation" is taking it a little too far in my opinion. They have a shared park, halfpipe, bag jump, and off hill stuff. Like why is that such an issue? I personally can tell a big difference skiing a park like loon and skiing HV(home hill with skiers on park crew).
They don't have a negative intention in my opinion. It sounds like they want to give the best experience there as possible for skiers and for snowboarders alike.
I still don't understand the lashout again windells.
Windells and High Cascade are the same organization, one skiing one snowboarding. They share half of the features on the mountain, they share campus areas, just skiing is associated with windells and high cascade is associated with snowboarding. This whole change is pure branding and the camps are going to be basically the same. I don't get why anyone cares so much.
BreakfastPenguinIt just means Windells will not have any more features skiers can't hit and the lips onto the rails won't be so freakin low because thats how snowboarders like them. .
What features do snowboarders build that skiers can't hit? Popping works on both skis and snowboards.

I'm just gonna drop by and recommend you hook up skiing park crew with apex boots. If I were going to work park crew ever as a skiier i would have these for my work boots. For going hard with my racing background not so much.

Ive never witnessed a feature that skiers physically couldn't hit. I like lower lips onto some features. the snowboarders will still be on campus using tramps, and that is also a generalization.

Maybe some skiers like low lips too? I don't really see how 99% of 'snowboarder' features aren't hittable by skiers, just gotta learn how to pop
Illest thing ever! now we can give the Finger to the High Cascade campers if Windells park is better!!!! haha But, on a serious note im excited for the change finally a skiers only camp!

anyone on here used these boots before and can tell me how they perform?
FROGGINBULLFISHanyone on here used these boots before and can tell me how they perform?
When you start to push it hard they give a bit too much flex. Going over 50mph they just don't give the amount of support a 130 custom fitted boot. The sizing is weird and it does not equivilate to your normal PROPERLY fitted ski boots. I have fitted boots from incline out of SLC in a 26.5 and needed a 28.5 in the apex. If you are going to be lapping handrails and doing jumps at the 40ft ish area they will be fine for that. Start heading up the tram at big sky or start to try do 70mph speed runs on groomies you will want your plastic boots back.
In my opinion where this boots fits into the industry right now is in:
Rental field: They are so damn comfy and fit without much hassle. If you are a first time skier regular plastic boots honest fucking suck. "Yes I would love to put my foot into a hard plastic clamp" said no one ever. If I put a first timer in these the will have a immensely better skiing experience and when they get better then they can invest into a pair of properly fitted boots. What also is nice is if someone wants to try snowboarding they can wear the same boot and you just hand the renter a snowboard.
Comfort for on mountain work: Lets be honest here. If you are going to use a snowmobile its a lot nicer to be riding in snowboard boots than plastic ski boots. When I was a lifty I leaned how to snowboard just so I could bump in board boots and just slide my feet into some flow bindings and get to riding or going to the next place without the hassle of putting ski boots on.
Meh, i don't think its the end of the world like some people seem to but it's definitely a strange decision. Snowboarders build way cooler features, and I personally find watching them shred to be much more inspirational than watching skiers. They do way iller presses and just generally ride with a better flow than most skiers.
Momentum is all skiing and tbh it kinda suffers cause of it. There's a plethora of jock skiers just there for the big jump and thus, the rails aren't as good. More people with different perspectives is a good thing and I think Windells benefits from having the input of both skiers and snowboarders.
Alvarothe "designed especially for skiers" concept goes against everything that FREEskiing means
I dont understand why you are complaining. There are so many features at my home mountain that are designed for boarders. Some of the features around crazy hard to hit on skis. I can totally see why Windells is doing this
