As I promised, here's my AR-15 build post. It was really fun and a great learning experience to put together. I highly recommend building if you plan on getting an AR.

Thanks dude. It took me a while to get to the final outcome, had a different optic, pistol grip and rail all at different times. The lack of recoil on the final outcome was insane. Switching between that and my issued m4 was a night and day difference.
Love the micro though. Between that, the EOTech xps, Aimpoint m68/compm2 and ACOG it was by far my favorite.
CirilloSwitching between that and my issued m4 was a night and day difference.
Did the difference in triggers annoy the hell out of you? A couple years ago the team dudes I shot with on the weekends told me that getting into tactical shooting and perfecting it at work ranges was really hard if I shot thousands of rounds with a nice trigger and muzzle break would be a bitch. I've shot all different kinds of triggers and know what I like now but i've never gotten new triggers for my personal rifles because multiple people have told me the exact same thing.
Obviously being team dudes they said they have wiggle room with what triggers they use in their business rifles but they don't put anything super fancy in their personals for this very reason. Any take on that?
This was a reason i'm getting rid of my BAD lever because in the office I never have one so there is no point in getting used to one on weekends/going through courses.

How much have you been able to shoot yours?
I've been talking to another NSer and he suggested the primary arms 1-6 scope. The reticle on it is really nice. Plus it can be illuminated but it's not very bright unfortunately.
I've put around 400 rounds through it. I only have access to an indoor range right now and range fee is $20 everytime. So it adds up quick. I haven't shot for a while now. This summer when I go home I'll be going to a 600 yd range that's like 10 miles from my house.

I've heard a lot of good things about Primary Arms, I haven't had any experience with them though. I will say Vortex are PHENOMENAL!
I have a Night Force which some consider to be an industry standard along with Leupold and every singe Vortex optic I have shot with I LOVED! The Razor was by far my favorite but price constraints when it comes to glass are a bitch. It's totally worth it to get something nice, I don't regret mine at all but I understand it's so hard to dig that deep in the pockets.
JAHpowI actually made a complete build list for one earlier this year so yeah. It'll be a while till I pursue it though since it's so expensive.
NOICE! So here's the debate I've run into... pros/cons of building one up completely or starting with the Daniel Defense upper/barrel/gas system and all that jazz.
It's the closest to the real Mk12 and all the dudes I've talked to (who actually use it) have said that's a great way to go about it. Obviously they know more than me and from what I'm reading KA has basically said Daniel Defense has done it better.
Also, I'm super stoked about getting this together as soon as I'm stateside but I get so sad when I think about how much I'm gonna have to shell out for glass :[[[[[

Realized I never answered this until you just bumped it my bad. Not enough to bother me though we didn't really shoot a ridiculous amount of rounds during training and I was a SAW gunner for a while too.

JAHpowI got the lower in the spring and bought parts throughout the summer. Put it all together at the end of summer. Cost was just under $1000. I plan on doing more builds in the future but just different setups. The next build will be a .300 Blackout. I'll get some target photos next time I'm at the range. I sighted in the irons on a computer range but that was set at 100 meters so it was difficult to get tight groupings.
Schlopy has a sick blackout. It's built out. U should PM him about what he has but it's super fun to shoot.

Mind posting that list up or PMing it to me?
DD does everything right, but my build doesn't use DD parts ha. Yeah I can send you the list, on mobile now so I can't till I get to my computer. There's a photo somewhere that I saw that uses similar parts to what I chose so I'll post that too if I find it.

Awesome. I feel you and don't blame you, shit costs money.

Honestly, my build interests change so frequently. Right now I'm looking into getting a glock 19 and just upgrading and customizing it. Then a dedicated 3 gun shotgun. Idk...too many guns, too little money

That's how it all started for me... AR, Glock 19, and 870 Magpul
If you're gonna fork over money for a pistol, please just go for a Sig... I only copped the Glock because it was Gen 4 for $275 and a six pack in a Florida parking lot

My experience with sig is a 226 that failed to feed a round on every mag. I know they're a great pistol, but I know a glock will go bang when I pull the trigger, everytime. Or I might go for the HK P30S, that's the most comfortable pistol I've ever held.

Damnnnnnnn! That's crazy. Never heard anything of the sort, but will agree the Glock goes bang every time.
That was the first HK I ever held and it completely blew my mind, no grip even comes close to it. Some German SF dudes rock a USP that has a grip like that or the VP9 as a sidearm (didn't have markings other than 9mm) and it really, really made me want one after a few hundred rounds.
I also know a guy who found a P30 (9) from a store or auction somewhere that had no safety... $200... blew my mind, he swears by it
JAHpowWat!? I've only ever seen them around a grand.
Yeah, we legit called bullshit and thought he was just lying so his girlfriend wouldn't be pissed at him. He then showed us the receipt, whoever sold it said it was because it didn't have a safety and "No one would buy it" which we still found comical.

Bahaha and p30s are double single hammer fired with a decocker...safeties on them are pointless

Glock does not go bang everytime. Shot a glock 380 last week and it malfunctioned 2 times in 100 rounds. If ur conceal carry, a 38 special is ur best bet. They rarely malfunction, and while glocks are sick they do fuck up. Revolvers rarely fail.

I know it's a little late now but have you ever looked at battle arms development receiver sets?

Still better than a 226 that malfunctions 1 in 15
CabbyArrantI know it's a little late now but have you ever looked at battle arms development receiver sets?
Ha no, waayyy out of my price range. They make good (and cool) stuff if you need something ambidextrous. Tbh, I can't believe they have the audacity to sell a basic stripped forged lower for over $200. Billet sets on the other hand...
- VLTOR MUR upper receiver
- Spikes tactical Punisher stripped lower receiver
- Wilson Combat Match Grade Recon Tactial 16.1" fluted barrel (got it cheap from DVOR.com)
- MagPul STR Mil-Spec sized buttstock
- JP Enterprises 3-prong flash hider
- Tactical Shit BangSwitch drop in trigger
- Trijicon MRO
I STILL need the handguard, iron sights, pistol grip, BCG, and gas block. Intend to get:
- Midwest Industries Gen III 15" keymod
- Ergo Deluxe Grip
- NiBo bolt carrier, not sure which company though
- BattleArms development gas bock
Trying to build a very lightweight but extremely accurate gun. I have an AR-15 right now but it's real basic and the handguard I have is excessively heavy on the front end.
Oh yeah, I also have an 18" .308 barrel to begin an AR-10. Want to use it to go hunting.
As to having a variable zoom scope or just a red dot. I watched this vid and it was really enlightening and I fully intend on getting a good 1-6x for my current AR and keeping the MRO on the one I am working on.
JAHpowMy Palmetto one has worked great. Got it on sale for $100. I'm pretty sure they get them from Aero Precision too.
Nice build btw! I'm pleasantly surprised how many NSers are into ARs.
Thanks for the idea man. I have a standard BCG in my current AR and there's nothing wrong with it but the second one I kind of want more "premium parts" if you know what I mean.
I wholeheartedly agree with this video. But I definitely walked into my awesome shop in FL, showed them the list of parts for what I wanted to build, they said how about a Daniel Defense for much cheaper and I walked away with the DDM4. I've honestly never looked back because it was that good of a deal.
I think if I actually did the build it would have taken away from money for optics and that was something I went into that first rifle dead set on.
Oh and a free Nightforce made me feel better about myself.

- Magpul STR buttstock
- Milspec buffer tube with standard spring and a rifle buffer
- Spikes Punisher lower
- Tactical Shit "Til Valhalla" triggerguard
- VLTOR MUR upper
- Standard upper parts kit
- Tactical Shit drop in "Bangswitch" trigger
- Tactical shot ambit safety lever
- NiBo BCG
- Yankee Hill flip up irons
- Trijicon MRO on a lower 1/3 cowitness mount (intend to grab a LaRue QD version soon)
- Midwest Industries Gen III 15" rail
- Wilson Combat fluted recon mid-length gas system barrel
- JP Enterprises flash hider
- The black bits you see are Railscales rail covers (I have a handstop too but am waiting on the keymod nut from Railscales).
I used to think rail covers were dumb as shit on keymod or M-LOK rails as I always thought the ladder covers were to keep the quadrails from snagging on shit... that is until I dumped close to 200 rounds in 15 minutes downrange in my other AR and it's handguard is even wider in diameter than the Midwest one and I was feeling the heat.
I have a nice Elzetta weapon light but the mounting options are "eeehhhh" IMO and I can't find a decent way to mount the tail switch so I might place an order for this sometime:
One of the 800 Lumen ones... my goal is to not only see my target in the dark if needed but blind the shit out of them too.

I'll just need a keymod rail section is all.
That is an awesome build, super stoked for you. I'd definitely "splurge" to get LaRue's for every other optic I own, they are just such a good company. Pick up an Inforce light, I had one of the old ones and I loved it. Rocking a surefire right now on the office gat and it's bulky/annoying when an Inforce would do a fine job.
SHAMELESS PLUG: If you've seen the gripstop, they are truly epic. Always rocked an AFG but the dude who created it sent a batch to our unit when they finally dropped the picatinny version and I don't see myself using anything else again.

I have an InForce pistol light on my Para 14.45 Black Ops 1911 and I can't stand it, the switches feel so damn unresponsive compared to a Surefire my buddy has on his G19, THE INFORCE RIFLE LIGHTS however I like a lot in the time I have played with them. I have a nice Elzetta with a tape switch but mounting the switch has been a bitch and a half so I'll just get the new InForce WML for this current build.
Gripstop? I got a handstop from Railscales I intend to mount on.
I KINDA want to switch out the Yankee Hill Iron's for like the MagPul pros simply because the YHM ones are kinda bulky and I keep slamming the tip of my thumb into the front post housing when it's down.

I don't think i've even seen their pistol lights, the WML though.... score!
Gripstop is just simple and I like it, produced by Kinetic Development Group, worth it if you wanna try something different.
I didn't get the magpul's because although they quickly flip-up... they're still plastic, I don't have a front sight post, and I feel like that's kinda sketchy. I got the Troy's, maybe try the G36 front post from them?

I went shooting with someone who had an AR-15 build, of course I have no clue what parts were used. I believe it was sort of a "kit" but definitely hand-built, incredibly light, beautiful design. There was this makeshift shooting range out in the middle of nowhere, I blew a hole in an old TV left out there and I've wanted to build one ever since.
To anyone that is thinking about building checkout DVOR.com
It's a membership site but it's free and they sell various parts on big time discounts there. As an example they had some Vortex Viper PST 6-24 power FFP scopes for sale a week or two ago. MSRP around $1000 and they were selling them at $600
They are currently doing sales on Wilson Combat stuff.
Damn, did not know those were metal! I've only seen the wide plastic ones. Definitely cop those! I need to get a keymod rail eventually, so many innovative shit coming out for it.
As for the 6.5... they're too much fun... and it only gets more fun with the more money you put into it!!!! First rifle i've ever picked up and started hitting plates @ 1k within minutes.
I'm about to start a build. don't really know where to start though, and NOT trying to go broke from this. I have someone whos ex-infantry in the states whos gonna build it for me, any help on the cheapest but quality parts would be nice. I'm i nthe military so my state laws don't apply to me, trying to make a badass gun i could also use on deer/coyotes when im out of the army

Find a blemished strip lower and upper. Anderson lowers are nice and inexpensive but they're no different than the Spikes I paid about $120 for.
Barrel wise you need to look into what you're going to build the AR for.
