Calling all material engineers

I was wondering who can tell me whT kind of rubber is used in the smith i/o goggle. Google searching for specific types of rubber has proven to be quite the task so this is my last resort.

The kind of rubber im looking for is super flexible and strong but can retain a pre determined shape. And preferably light.

Also if your curious about what I need this information for I'm making a time machine.

This. Without knowing what part of the goggle you're looking at, my gut is to say that you're probably mistaking it for a plastic.

But back to the point. The part of the goggle I'm referring to is the bottom portion of the frame in between the nose bridge and the outriggers(??) On close inspection it seems like it might actually be a plastic.... As you can see my knowledge of materials is limited.

Does anyone know of a plastic with those properties?

85,000.....Well thats a little intimidating.

Lets say I wanted to make a sphere like the one below out of a plastic. I want it to remain rigid while no outside force is being applied to it but also have the ability to be compressed and then spring back to its initial shape.
e.g. Getting crushed and flattened then returning to its original ball like shape after the pressure is removed.

The plastic in the Smith I/O goggle seem's to potray those properties so thats why I was wondering what kind it was. But if you know of another plastic or polymer that displays those same properties please share.

Goggle frames are usually TPU - thermoplastic polyurethane. When a soft durometer is used, the plastic will feel and mimic rubber but be far more durable. It's what allows a goggle frame to be twisted and flexed but still allow it to return to its normal intended shape.

Yup TPU. I have some great contacts if you want molding supplies for small scale castings of these types of materials. I also have a great urethane 3D print filament I use thats pretty rad.
