Hey there NS. I worked at west for a few years a while back. Just moved back to the 518 to start on the parks here last month.
A lot of stuff is in progress but I figured I would make a thread before the season.
These are some of the existing features as well as the new color scheme. We have 14 features right now, plus some others I still need to fix, and ones that I'm going to build.
We're going to have 3 parks for this season as opposed to 1 in previous years. There will be some new features getting built for this year as well as in the coming seasons.
West hasn't traditionally been the place that comes to mind when you think of parks, and I'm hoping to change that this season.
The new owners are putting a lot of money into the right places. New lift, adding new snowmaking lines and guns, some new lights, the parks, as well as other things.
I just wanted to say hello, and that you should think about stopping by and checking it out if you're in the 518 area.
1 of the parks will be the traditional park on the face. There will be another park on the other side of the trees in the same area. Then a dedicated beginner park farther up the mountain.
I'm also planning a wood terrain park in the trees for next year, but if I can find some time it might even happen in some form for this year.
Hopefully will have a few new features done for the start of the season as well, as some more trickling out throughout the year. I plan on building at least a few new features every year. There are a few other features I'm planning on fixing up and getting out in the snow this season.
Will have 3 parks for this season for sure, and 4 for next season.
I was debating posting for a while, until everything was done but figured I would mention it and get the word out. I can tell you it's going to be a sick year for the parks here, and going to keep growing each season.
G-raff.These are the same rails that have been there for years...

Was never trying to claim those as new features. Just wanted to show people who haven't ridden there what we're working with, and also the fresh paint. Sorry for the confusion.
I wanted to wait to post a thread, but at the same time that's one of the last things out there, so I wanted to post something now earlier on, to let people know that west is going to be legit this season.
These were two existing features as well but I they previously weren't skirted. I cut the legs off, respaced them, added feet, and tabs for some skirting.
Also I can tell you 100% that there will be new features. How many and what, is still top secret. But I will post them as they're built.
Just wanted to get people stoked in advance that some positive changes are coming.

Good to see you're able to get some decent work done over there. I guess powder just wasn't your thing... oh well.

That long box thats upside down in the picture looks super fun and mellow. So dope to see parks building some stuff thats not so big
drewhogancant wait. also know the owner of west. heard you guys are making the old lift towers into some tubes. gonna be dope
Matt_Want to drop any hints about new features
G-raff.Any chance on using old lift towers for some fat tube rails?
So I wanted to post about the tubes but I didn't want to mention it and have it not be a thing. Ended up securing a bit of tower tubing, enough for a feature or two.
Mostly tube rails of various diameters. How many is up in the air but at least a few, and hopefully another feature or two during the season.
Probably 2 features will be flat rails as we could use some more for downs, ups, and flats.
Will very likely build a hitchin' post.(Maybe a mini one too)
I'll update as I start building them. Should have a couple done by opening day.
These are those mini rails that I posted above, finally done. Also did a bit of work on the rails behind them and lowered them(They were chest high 12' long rails) I just wanted to get all the old dialed before starting the new stuff.
The parks will definitely be proper at west this season. Stop by sometime and harass me for no reason.
So it's been an interesting season on the east. I haven't really been updating with things.
Anyway, we have a 2 jump line with the biggest jump at 35', 2 takeoffs on each knuckle. We have a 10' down box in, 21' shotgun down rail, 15' aframe rail, and 21' flat tube. Setup will be getting switched around with the rail jam. After the contest will finish building things out and get it loaded with rails.
We have 2 new tube rails, one that I just finished, and the hitchin' post so far. The tube rails are 21' and 26'.

26 footer
Flat rails are 4" tube and hitchin' post is 10" I believe. Hopefully building some more features, have one in the works right now just not sure when I'll have free time. Would like to get at least 2 or 3 more things out this season.
We have a ail jam this Friday night. Here is the layout I'm going with. Not sure if I'll be able to do the brick. But this is what the setup will probably look like.
And so you know I'm serious for that I built this today.
R.I.P. round too lol. I heard a couple months ago that they aren't hiring anyone to run the park, and mountain operations will build it.
I don't think I'm flying out till after opening day there now so I'll probably swing by and spin a few laps, maybe even put in a feature for the childrens if there's nothing in.
That said what can ya do. I think I wanted the parks at west to work more than any other place I worked. Unfortunately no matter how hard you want something, you can always be limited by the place you're at.
West is once again the one that got away.

A pic of the remains of the comp setup a few days after before the rain completely fucked it.
This setup was a blast though. Bummed I couldn't make it better but even working 23 hours a day, one guy with no time is rough.
Idk, it's just a bit sad to watch gore and wests parks go nowhere. Nostalgia ing on the region right now that I'm back at my parents house for a couple weeks.
Oh yeah and for west.
So west tore down their old lift last season. Wanted to build a bunch of tower jibs. That was one of the reasons I came back and tried to save as many sections from the scrapyard as possible. Was thinking 7+ towers.
But when your 5-6 person crew is actually only 2 and then just 1(me) it's kind of a joke to try and do much. With the late start, being laid off for almost a month(do to weather but couldn't even work for free) and then having no resources. I'm stoked I got 4 new features done.
The shit weather didn't help anything. I probably could have gotten things alright with the few resources if there was snow and time. That said even without the weather I was pretty fucked from the start.
Hopefully they still use my plans for the all natural park that me and page cleared last fall, the pine island beginner park, and a flow park next to the main park. Pine island was going to be a game changer. As lame as it would be, being able to hit another park that far up the mountain would have been sick. Also the perfect place to learn new tricks or hit your first feature. Also would have been able to hit the wood park, pine island, and the main park in one line.
These are the planed tube rails that got scrapped. Also never had the time to rebuild the massively fucked wallride as well as put it on skis so that it's mobile and push/towable with a fucking cat.
Oh yeah and here's the hitchin post. Can't find a picture of the pole jam. Built it after I stopped working there. Never put it in. Might not ave even taken a pic.
It's just sad to see so mountains put so little into the park. Also in addition to no resources almost try to cripple any efforts of progress. I get it that people just don't know, but sweet jesus. It's 2016. This is beyond "Them gosh darn trick skiers and snerrrberrders are going to run into us or get our kids hooked on the drugs" times.
I still fucking hope that somehow they can pull off a decent park. Even if some of the local kids put in time. All the rails got fixed up last year including some massive repairs/total rebuilds so at least there's that.
I still want to see gore or west build something good. That said west is sliding toward about how I feel about gore which is sad.
