I think he's honestly my favorite GOP candidate. The problem is with these early debates is that the early polls are full of folks looking for "red meat" (that being lip service to highly conservative opinions, issues or viewpoints) and ELECTABLE candidates like Kasich get ignored.

I hate having to explain myself when I say "I'm a Republican" and then have to say "but. (gay marriage, immigration, insert other social issue) is fine"

He speaks the truth. I'm almost 16 but i follow politics and i honestly do not feel comfortable with any of these candidates at all. I tend to side with conservative views but I'm not a die hard republican. I develop my views by my own judgement, not by a party. Of course, everybody pulls the "oh you must hate gays and blacks" but that's far from the truth. Kasich has done some good things in Ohio (where i live) these past few years and i wish he had a better shot

Interesting, he seems pretty animated going into tonight's debate. Maybe we'll see a little bit more of him - he didn't do fantastic in the previous debate, and I'd love to hear more from him.

Quite frankly this mantra has applied probably more to certain members of the left wing, at least at the higher levels. It's all just tribalism.

I hate the meme of "both sides do it" but sadly - and I say this as a liberal by any reasonable definition - liberals are happily moving towards a full-fledged abandonment on reliance on reason and empirical facts in favour of being able to tell stories about societal injustice, with the sense that if we tell them in an emotionally compelling way (facts be damned) we can more effectively fight these injustices. The cure's getting to be much worse than the disease.

That's beside the point here. The problem in this Republican campaign for me has been that it's no longer a political event but an entertainment event. It's like a reality show, whoever is the crazy entertaining goofy guy is who gets the support. Shout the loudest and sound the nuttiest and you'll get air time and vote share. Has nothing to do with their ability to actually govern. Seems to be what Kasich is frustrated with.

Good for him, I'm honestly glad to see someone using their brain and wanting to have thoughtful debates on how to best arrive at solutions. It's crazily sad to think that someone with such an opinion/outlook is the outlier, but I guess that's not necessarily a new thing either.

the left and right are all the same, regardless of the topical issues like pot gay rights taxes healthcare and guns, we're going to get a president that favors big corporations, and wars will continue to happen regardless of who is in office. everybody thinks they are some sort of fuckin political expert when the outcome ends up being very similar to what would happen with somebody of the opposite party being in office.

think obama's a lot different than bush? still a lot of phone tapping going on, drone attacks in yemen, and big banks were bailed out. oh and we're still in afghanistan (however our pharmaceutical industry and technology industry needs that, since they have the largest supply of opium and the largest vein of lithium in the world). the only real difference is that obama can actually deliver a speech so people don't think he's retarded. Nothing will change other than those topical issues like pot gay rights taxes healthcare and guns.

I lost faith when a person like Obama was considered by most to be "liberal."
