REI says they are not supporting black Friday this year they are paying employees tho but don't you think they are missing out on some profit they told everyone to take a hike. Thoughts on Black Friday? Anything special you wanna get with or with out punching an old lady out?

Not really a fan. Dont care if others do it but I just think Black Friday represents a lot of awful things about this country. There's no reason people need to get this worked up and aggressive over deals. Too many videos last year of fights breaking out and employees being assaulted because PS4's are 60$ or some wack shit. I do recall even seeing a vid of some lady getting thrown to the ground while some dude stole her shit right of her cart. What the fuck is wrong with people? We dont do that shit over lettuce in the produce section.

Good on REI. I feel like the majority of black friday go'ers have never worked a job that requires them to work holidays like that, so its good to see REI give a shit about their employees. I dont think this is something that will kill them, corporations always find ways to make up losses.

No. As far as PR moves go, this one is as good as gold. They'll benefit from this way more than they would from a couple of crazy sales.

they will also get free advertising from news channels that will mention it. any publicity is good publicity

Sorry, but REI sucks. Whenever I go in there, I see over priced trash and the demographic every time are older guys that make a lot of money and have no idea they can get ski poles cheaper than $80.
(Just my generalization)

REI is more of an overall outdoors store than anything. It's not meant to be a ski shop. They sell the best gear for hiking, camping, and backpacking. Go to a ski shop to buy ski gear.
