Replying to Help mounting a monoski
I have been experimenting with mono-skis for quite a while (5+ years) and they are a lot of fun, but the current market offerings do not suit my needs. most mono-skis are stiff and directional and not at all meant for use in the park. Initially that was fine, but as my skills with a mono ski progressed I wanted something softer that i could butter with, and more importantly I wanted something twin tipped that i could go backwards on occasionally if i had to. this lead me to experimenting with mounting ski bindings onto snowboards.
That worked great for a while. it was soft and i could butter it, and it was twin tipped. perfect. i started learning rails with it, and that's were my current dilemma begins. i keep ripping the bindings out. Due to the fact that snowboards are slightly wider than your typical mono-boards there is a lot of stress on it, and when going down something with moguls or when hopping onto rails the bindings tend to rip out after a few runs.
They last for a while, but Im on snowboard number 3, and i really think there has to be a better way.
what is the strongest way to mount bindings to it?
Im thinking along the lines of drilling through the snowboard and mounting some rivnuts to a metal plate (which I will countersink into the base of the snowboard and cover in p-tex) and hopefully use to sandwich the board between that plate and bindings.
(ive attached a picture so you guys get a better idea of what im talking about)
any thoughts or suggestions?
