What's the relationship like?


It seems that every ski movie shows cop, cop cars, disputes with policeman, and all that shit

In a way ski movies make it out like all cops do all day is busy some junkies grinding on rails

So I wanna know what's your skier experience been like with a cop or an officer of the law?

Do all cops care about is skids grinding on rails?

Considering that alot of these spots are on private land, owners call the cops to get these kids to leave so there property isnt damaged. Its not that cops rally go out of there way to kick you out. And if youre shooting a urban part. youre going to run into a few cops here and there.

Do ppl ever get arrested or sued? Or do cops just tell the kids to leave?

You can get arrested but as long as you're respectful and listen to them, you won't get charged with anything serious.

seems like any other relationship with cops telling you to beat it out of private property and such. don't push your luck and don't be a dick and they'll let you go home ticket-free id imagine. Im sure there are cops that were supermega dicks to crews but I feel like its also the demeanor of both parties involved that matters as well.

I highly doubt many of you want to flex your knowledge of the law to someone that really has no issue kneeing you in the ribcage. but hey, that's just me.

*no issue kneeing you in the ribcage over a handrail, I should say.

As long as you're respectful to police, they will be respectful back. That's the type of experience I've had. Now are there times when the cops are out of line? Yeah maybe. But I wouldn't recommend being an idiot and trying to flex your law muscles. That'll get you tasered.

my friend in Indiana got a gun pulled on him by a cop and a property owner for refusing to leave, the kid was all fuzzed up on some psychedelic drugs and ended up getting tackled down by 2 police, and spent a night in the drunk tank.

the property owner also said she was going to file trespassing complaints, but never did

depends where you are I guess.
in russia they come at you with automatics, in scandenavia they give you props and ask you politely to clean up. in america it could go either way.

i just don't get why every ski flick starts off by showing cops and shit and kick outs, like in there no originality in ski flicks?

are skiers "gangsters" or "thugs" by having cops and shit shown in many ski flicks?

Id say if you show respect and do as they ask theyll just make sure you leave and wont punish you. Some cops can definetley be a bit harsh, definetley a better than the relationship of cops and skateboarders. Just dont be the kid to ask "officer are we doing anything wrong?" or try testing them because typically in urban scenarios you are doing something legally wrong.

It would be a long shot to get arrested, unless you actually damage to the properly, but even then the owner will probably just say pay me for the damages and that would be that, most likely you would be charged with trespassing which is a violation and you get a ticket.

we once had a coiple cops tell us we had to go. Started packing up and they said "no, go slide the rail a couple more times while we watch you".

I went 2 years without getting a pass and almost exclusively hit urban so ive had plenty of these run ins. As long as youre polite and respectful you will not be charged or even get threatened with charges.
