Need new goggles?

I'm curious as to why there are so many new goggle companies producing the exact same goggles under the same name, This is probably the 3rd company I've seen with this frame. Do they all come from the same factory in china or is there no patent or whatever on the goggle design?

I'm hip, I mean they look sick no doubt but it's still pretty much the same as the other goggle start-ups that have come around recently. I've noticed that not much innovation has happened in a while as far as goggle styling goes. Sure, these companies all say they have the "elite features" and can end up costing hundreds of dollars, but I can deal with a little bit of fog on some cheap goggles that end up looking almost exactly the same as ones costing possibly hundreds of dollars more. At this point, a lot of the "innovations" are really superfluous... like do we really need a heads up display in our goggles? It's cool and all but I feel that it's something we don't really need and subtracts from the actual skill and fun in our sport that comes from basically winging everything... /end rant

between these other, lesser known goggle companies, and the established bigger companies... what are you guys doing differently?

No hate but Shouldnt this go in gear talk?

To answer all your questions: We are team of skiers who've been working in the industry or riding at a decent level for years and were thinking of launching a company within skiing. Our choice went towards goggles as we felt it was a market dominated by big brands and ripe for disruption. Goggles are also, from a manufacturing perspective, something that we had more knowledge about and felt we could crack. There are loads of factories out there, and I can guarantee you that our products are made in an excellent factory. We've visited the factory many times where our goggles are made. Several big brands also get their goggles produced there. In the industry, this is fairly normal, companies don't own the manufacturing process.

We differentiate ourselves by bringing you a high quality product at a reasonable price which is also customisable on top of that. Today we don't have retailers and that enables us to pitch a goggle for around $100, which would otherwise be sold in stores for $140+.

Our model is good quality, uncomplicated and ultimately affordable. We pride ourselves on having excellent customer service to compliment our product range.

They're pretty sick looking IMO...except price is just not there. Why would I pay 60 Euros for something, no offense, that probably isn't as good quality as the big players. Price would have to come down much more for me to buy them.

I bought a sick pair of goggles at a huge discount on http://www.theclymb.com for $25 last year. Was like 75% off or something.

To be fair to these (insert brand name and statement about how we love the Alps here) companies they do serve a great purpose.

In Europe most of my friends only ski one week a year at the most, does it make sense to drop triple the money on a set of Oakleys or Simths to have someone nick them or stand on them at Apres? European apres is a messy affair for those who haven't seen it. I've ski repped in Europe for five years or so and the amount of nice gear that gets stolen, lost or trashed is massive. Most people can't even ski in a straight line after apres...

When I'm repping I leave all of my nice gear home, I have a pair of old Oakleys that I don't care about, ex demo skis which for all I care can be nicked and none of my decent clothes come out as gulwine and beer or cheese cake does not come off gear easily...
