No helmets, is it a style thing?

ok lemme preface this by saying i am in no way insulting people who choose not to wear helmets and this is an honest question i have.

every day i see more and more edits of kids shredding the park in specific without helmets. some times they are great and others not so great and i will admit i do like the look of no helmet better than that of with a helmet. but i cant help but look down on those refusing to wear one unless the jump is huge and think to myself "Why in the Fuck are these clowns not wearing helmets?"

i understand that style makes up about 60 percent of how someone is perceived in this community, but is looking good really worth jeopardizing the one organ that matters most. sure i get that its a dangerous sport but you should at least try to lessen your chances of injury/brain damage/death by just strapping a tiny plastic shell on your head. tbh i just dont see the reasoning behind it, and i think its pretty dumb.

tldr: why the fuck do people not wear helmets? is it for style? are you estupido?

Tbh, I think it's a style thing. Would B-dogs tricks still be as cool if he wore a helmet? The only exception I can think of is McVeigh, but he has his hood up all the time.

With skiing and riding I think it's a never have so I never will try it sort of thing.

In summer sports you have the heat issue and having something on your head. In the winter you're all bundled up with gear that ways a ton, you've got shit on your head, and you're trying to stay warm.

I think a lot of people that don't wear one, if they tried it would get used to it pretty quickly and not mind them. That said it's their right now to.

I didn't wear one growing up but nobody did honestly, it wasn't even a thing really. For the last 7 or 8 years, maybe more I've worn one regularly though.

It's saved me from some gnarly shit. I've broken several, one was completely in half. I know there's the argument that helmets don't stop concussions, but I think they make a difference worth using them. I mean in the back when you slam, you have the foam, that cracks and bends out to slow the deceleration of your dome.

I've cracked the foam in the back of several helmets so it's definitely saved my brain some abuse.

I rock no helmet and let my hair flow whenever I'm doing shit that I'm comfortable with or learning tricks that I feel like I got and are on smaller features. But if I'm trying bigger shit or going to try and throw something dangerous I'll strap that bitch on. I just love how it feels to ski with nothing on my head honestly.

I just wear a helmet because it makes me feel safer... My aunt is a neuroscientist and says helmets don't really do much, but I wear 'em anyway, I feel safer mentally and I'm more willing to do crazy shit with one on.

It's for sure about style. I wear a helmet personally, does it look dorky? Maybe, but I know that when I crash I won't get brained on a rock. It doesn't really matter if someone wears one or not IMO.

because wearing sunglasses and letting your hair out on sunny days when you are just screwing around not skiing overly fast, or sending anything feels just great.

Why do people not wear shirts at the beach? they should to protect against skin cancer. Its cause it feels damn good.

Why is this still a discussion? It's not some new trend. There have always been those who have worn helmets and those who haven't. There will always be guys who wear helmets and guys who choose not to. People will continue to get hurt when wearing them and when not wearing them.

If you feel safer with one, awesome. Rock that bad boy. If want to channel your inner Candide and go without, have at it.

Get outside, ski and stop judging others base on what they choose or choose not to wear.

Personally I hit my head a lot more often with a helmet than I have without it, now I haven't skied park without a helmet since I was like 17, and haven't had a head injury since, I've had other injuries. I just keep it off my head.

Lol besides I probably couldn't fit a helmet on my head with all my hair any ways. Nothing like skiing POW with your hair out

younger riders or those new to the sport might not remember, but the popularity of helmets is fairly recent. youd see little kids wear them, but not as many adults, and im talking as recent as 5 yrs ago.

maybe out west its different i dunno

I feel that in those cold winter month helmets are great because everything gets pretty icy but there are some spring days that are warm and slushy that is feels great to ride with nothing on your head

Geez, ever seen a skate edit? A lot of people don't wear helmets when they film, whether style, comfort, whatever, who gives a shit. f^CK!

I wear a helmet because of low impact hits. I hit my head many times when I ski and if I didn't have a helmet on I'd probably would have cracked my head open by now.

Yeah I'm trying to not let myself go helmet-less anymore but I'll never deny that skiing with just shades is the sickest haha

that is your right and your decision. im just giving my advice. while the helmet is only good for an impact up to like 15mph, i dont understand why people would risk it by not wearing one. seems like a no-brainer..(intended), no?

Yeah. You should probably look at what speed your helmet is rated for.

Also, it's internal injuries that kill folks when the slam into trees at high speeds.

Helmets are good to help with conclusions and head impacts. But it helps a lot more to not hot rocks or trees at high speeds.

It's a good idea to wear a helmet. I probably should start doing that.

I dunno... with the headphones clicked in looks alright to me. The ears are weird without them, but I don't think the idea is to rock that without the headphones.

Its funny though, because I was literally just thinking yesterday I was impressed with how that helmet looks, lol.
