I'm a proud meninist

cool_nameI don't think anyone was in favour of radiCal feminists except radical feminists when theY first started too.
i like how you just use big blanket terms such as terribly oppressed and provide no examples
CheddarJackI use "terribly" as a comparative term. Compared to men (who aren't oppressed)
CheddarJackWomen can often offer different views on engineering problems that may be overlooked by men. Girls often just think differently than guys do and for engineering, which is driven by knowledge of conceptions, this is a big deal. Also, when a gender or identity is a small minority in a class or field of study, they experience a lot more pressure than the majority to perform well as they feel as though they are a representative of their identity. Although this has its advantages, it is overall bad. I am in my third year of my undergrad as a mechanical engineer and have interned for two years at a engineering lab so I have a fair amount of experience with this.
Engineering would be better off with more women. It's not just a feminism thing, but a scientific thing as well.
Also, I'm frankly shocked you would say "Don't we want the best engineers to rise to the top, regardless of their gender?" Is that not the same as, say, "don't we want the best students to rise to the top, regardless of their (insert identity group here)?". I know that you know the problem with that question...
WillowsJust to be clear Mike Buchanan is not saying that women are worse in business areas he is just saying that there is no reason to press for more females in these kinds of areas when there is no evidence that show that this is beneficial to do it. Also no one is pressing to get more women into blue collar work areas where there is also an enormous lack of females. Why? Why only the areas with good pay?
CheddarJackI don't think anyone but radical feminists are in favor of them. You don't need to make up a dumb name for yourself that will just piss off a lot of people.
You have some learning to do if you don't think women are oppressed.. If they weren't, there wouldn't be any need for any sort of feminism. I use "terribly" as a comparative term. Compared to men (who aren't oppressed) and to what far too many people think, they are terribly oppressed. But yes, there are plenty of other groups that are far worse off.
S.M.GIt's awesome having a guy come in and do this educating. it's fucking exhausting having this conversation every day, especially when i get written off as a feminazi.
you're the best Jack.
CheddarJackThere are a handful in this thread alone. There's a stigma against girls performing well in school and studying math/science. There is a large pay gap between genders. Women are treated with less respect every day. First example that comes to mind: auto shops. They'll assume women don't know anything about their car and try to make them buy the more expensive version of what they want. But then when their husband comes in, they'll give him what he wants, no questions asked. I've heard of this happening many times. A lot of slang words are belittling to women: if you're a big pussy, you're weak but if you have big balls you're strong.
That enough examples for you? If not, Google will give you 1000x more.
onenerdykidAffirmative action has always been a tricky one for me.

WillowsI agree that he's right about the problems that women face, but to say that men are not being oppressed is not educating anyone..
CheddarJackAh, but oppression =/= discrimination.
Men are discriminated against all the time, sure. But oppression implies that an entire identity group is "subject to unjust treatment or control". In other words, it is not just individuals that suffer, but the identity group as a whole.
So if women are the oppressed gender, who is doing the oppressing?
Men.
So then who is benefiting from the oppression?
Men.
So can the entire gender of men be oppressed?
No. Not until women stop being the ones that are oppressed.
cool_nameMen is an entire identity group. Therefore because as you said men are subject to discrimination, men is an entire identity group, and men are subject to opprerosion.
of course that Shouldn't be that shocking because discrimination is the act of judging someone based on them belong to a group or appearing to belong to a group.
Also that form of logic hardly follows because women also contributed to the act of oppressing women, and just because oppression occurs in one area to a group doesn't mean that another group can't also be oppressed in a different way by the first group
not mention that is entirely going of the idea that women are the gender opperesed, which your argument could just as easily show the opposite if you switched the genders
onenerdykidYou have to look at it this way- discrimination is a building block for oppression. That means that without discrimination, you don't have oppression. Discrimination is the necessary condition for oppression.
Oppression is more systematic and widespread than discrimination. A race or gender can be oppressed with a few not being oppressed (they either escaped or are shown favor etc). So even if some aren't specifically oppressed, oppression of a gender or race can still occur.
erikKIf being a meninist means I refuse to apologize and feel bad about myself for being born a white male like the feminists want then count me the fuck in
CheddarJackFeminism is about acknowledging that, not apologizing or feeling guilty for it.
It's so much simpler than it's made out to be, really.
erikKhaha alright pal

mirozWhy did you even bother posting this? This is sub-SFB quality.
Monsieur_PatateHm, when I first saw this thread a couple of days ago I thought it was a satire, so I smiled and moved on. But now people are actually debating this.
First of all 'Meninism' is not etymologically correct. Feminism originates from the latin words femina and ismus, so 'Meninism' should be 'Virism' or something.
And then if you consider that feminism is about wanting social and economic equality to men, then its counterpart 'Meminism' is about wanting social and economic equality to women? So it's basically the same thing.
This entire concept is obviously a troll, but it's funny to see idiots actually thinking it's serious.
WillowsMenism isn't really a thing.. If you want an opposition to feminism look at something like Men's rights movement(MRM)
DaffyDaDakProud Meninist checking in OP
Monsieur_PatateAnd then if you consider that feminism is about wanting social and economic equality to men.
WillowsHaha... You do know it's a virus right? Holy fuck you're stupid dude... Both my parents are doctors so I KNOW that you are wrong.. You really don't have a fucking clue.. Theres is nothing that the vaccine does differently for women.. The HPV vaccine helps both genders equally and therefore should not only be free for one of them...
WillowsI agree that he's right about the problems that women face, but to say that men are not being oppressed is not educating anyone..
MinggMen deserve rights.
Women deserve rights.
Minorities deserve rights.
Whites deserve rights rights.
We are all people and we all deserve equal fucking rights.
MinggThis is why I am against this "feminist" movement.
Men deserve rights.
Women deserve rights.
Minorities deserve rights.
Whites deserve rights rights.
We are all people and we all deserve equal fucking rights.
Bill.NyeThat's what feminism is.
Can you show me anyone in the world who is oppressed because of their identity as a white man?
mirozDevil's advocate: are you the person who responds to "Black Lives Matter" by saying "all lives matter"...?
MinggI've never heard either phrase before but like life is life haha.
mirozWait...wat? Yes you have.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Lives_Matter
MinggAhh. Okay, yeah I have heard that haha. Tbh I didn't follow that whole thing very much. I don't fully understand the context so excuse my ignorance. But yeah I think it would be safe to say that all lives matter haha
shibbyfeminists are dumb as fuck and annoying as fuck. basically on the same level as vegans. they'll find an excuse to get insulted by your mere existence just because you aren't them. almost any self described feminist you meet (and don't worry they will tell you eventually) is also a massive fucking cunt
Bill.NyeBOTH of them? Wow dude that's really impressive, you probably have a big bedroom with your own TV in it.
"Most men who get HPV (of any type) never develop any symptoms or health problems. But some types of
HPV can cause genital warts. Other types can cause cancers of the penis, anus, or oropharynx (back of the
throat, including base of the tongue and tonsils.) The types of HPV that can cause genital warts are not the
same as the types that can cause cancer."

Just to be clear, your argument is that since men in denmark have to pay extra for a vaccine that they can still buy for not that much money and they don't strictly need most likely anyway proves that sexism has begun to swing the other way and men are oppressed?
Proceed.

onenerdykidIs your experience and conclusion based more or less on younger people? I find that most anyone
mirozOkay, so in all honesty, I baited you: it's a common criticism by many to respond to the BLM campaign with "all lives matter." However, the BLM campaign is not implying that all lives don't matter. Instead, it highlights the struggles and risks of being black in today's society. The fact that black people's lives matter needs to be pointed out explicitly because they are at increased risk for police brutality and violence (not to mention all else that comes with being the victims of lingering discrimination). Saying "all lives matter" belittles this point; of course all lives matter, but white people usually don't need to worry about theirs, and they certainly are not at risk like black people are.
The reason I brought that up is the same reason why I think that woman in your video is wrong. The analogy I'm trying to make is that being a feminist is not about favoring women over men, or putting men down. It's about drawing attention to the fact that women, for pretty much the entirety of human existence, have been oppressed or 'lower' than men. The legacy of that behavior still lingers in many areas of our society. That fact needs to be recognized so that we can make a conscious effort to eliminate those legacies. The video may be right about a lot of things, and of course things aren't perfect for men; things aren't perfect for white folks either. But I think it acts as an analog to "all lives matter" and belittles what is still a very relevant issue in today's society.
SFBmeninism is just as autistic as new wave western feminism.
WillowsHow about Humanism? or equalism.. The basic thought behind feminism is great, but modern feminists have construed the role of feminism.. I most modern countries you will actually find that men don't have the same opportunities compared to women.. The danish HPV-vaccine is a great example.. Girls get it for free, boys have to pay for it.. A vaccine that prevents all kinds of cancers (testicular cancer among others).. I believe that girls in the Great Britain receive economic support for choosing to study as an engineer just because of the fact that there are more men in that field.. I think we have to remember that we don't need more women engineers we just need more engineers.. We are equal and therefore we should not support one sex more than we do the other...
butterslut.on the topic of health care i agree with you. no body's health should be placed above another persons. no gender is more important than the other. that reminds me of a brochure i got in the mail from a "save the children" company, they said that they were only giving water to women and children in third world countries if you donated. men need water too guys...I think putting women's healthcare above men's stems from the primitive idea that since women carry life in them or have the capability of doing so, they need to be protected. It doesn't matter how many men die because as long as there's one man he can impregnate hundreds of women. But since we don't live in hunter/gatherer communities anymore, that idea doesn't apply to our society so we need to be egalitarian in everything we do. thats the only way to make things fair and we all deserve a fair world.
DadcoreThere are alot of nonprofits who give water and loans to women instead of men because in those countries women are more likely to put that money to good use whereas it is feared the men will spend it on alcohol. Generally thats why so many things like that focus on empowering women.
