U.S. State with most pretty mountains?

Im inclined to say colorado, because colorados high altitude/above the treeline/snow capped peaks are the closest match to the alps.
Ive been lucky enough to ski at both zermatt (switzerland) and les arcs (france), and the mountains there are thousands of meters above the treeline.
The top half of mountains like breck and copper are way above the treeline and they remind me of the alps.

Tbs the canyons resort in utah is one of my favorites.

there are some parts of pa that are nice. I really like the Appalachians tho. the greens are real nice to especially with that "snowliage"

That's a tough one! The Tetons don't have foothills so they're majestic AF. I'd say Wyoming or Washington.

Alaska is the king, but it is a freak state so it doesn't count.

So with that said, Washington. Wide array of mountain types, vertical relief, and glaciers. I'm not personally a fan of above tree line=always better, so give me the Cascades and Olympics and be done with it.

Good topic, impossible to answer. There aren't too many ranges I don't like.

Washington's North Cascades have always been high up on my list. Steep and rugged AF, with almost impossible access to a majority of the range. Me gusta!

The Sawtooth Range in Idaho (and the vast mountainous wilderness in general in Idaho) gives it something of a Canadian feel. Not too many places in 'Murka give that true wilderness feeling like Idaho.

Who doesn't love the Sierra Nevada? Huge, high elevation granite slabs that goes on for days, with some of the most impressive trees on the planet on their flanks - not to mention the snow (back in the day of course).

Colorado Rockies are probably my least favorite of the main ranges. While they are impressive (3500M treeline is damn high!!!, some of the highest paved roads in the world, and relatively easy access) they are lacking the glaciated peaks and steep valleys that I really enjoy.

Teton Range. If you gaze upon the Tetons and aren't impressed, there is something wrong with you.

While I have never seen them with my own eyes, I've always wanted to spend time in Utah's Uinta Mountains. They look nice and rugged, yet with really mellow approaches and vast plateau areas. Looks prefect for long summer adventures for getting lost in the wilderness.



Above all else though, the Columbia Mountains and Coast Mountains of BC reign supreme over all else. Some of the most glaciated mountains in the world (non polar regions), some of the highest vertical relief in the world - accompanied by some of the deepest canyons in the world. The snowfall/snowpack, and because it's where I live, my knowledge of the ranges and the comfort I feel when I'm in them. Columbia Mountains are my home, it's where I feel normal.

Cascades, and the cascade volcanoes are pretty incredible, Washington is definitely in the running.

Idaho has a lot of gnarly stuff that no one ever sees. The Sawtooths are insane and there is no one in the state.

Tetons are just so stark and iconic that they have to make the list.

Alaska is amazing but I wouldn't live here unless you feel like putting up with extremely cold weather like 20-30 below regularly in winter. Not to mention that there is a limited amount of days to ski unless you're insane and feel like going at 20 below.

In the lower 48, you can't beat Colorado. That being said, I've never been to Alaska and the coast mountains kinda blow other ranges I've seen out of the water

Nah man. I love our fine state but it's mountains are not as crazy beautiful as some others. Rocky Mountain and the Bells might have a chance but other than that the other states blow us right outta the water.

Yeah, standing on top of one of those and seeing the others is a pretty incredible thing. Helens is beatiful, Adams is awesome but I've got to say the view from the top of Hood is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

That unintas are amazing in the summer, endless logging roads, alpine lakes and shit tons of hiking and camping.

If thats a road on the last pic, I need to find it. I dont care what my annoying teen friends say about how boring it is (most are spoiled girls) once you explore NH its such an amazing state, gonna explore a ton of roads and scenery areas over the next few years up north hopefully

i got to witness this same exact view firsthand.

come here to say cascade mountain range in PNW, by far. if anyone gets the chance, backpack fourth of july pass. some of the campsites there are on literal cliffs over lakes. it is breathtaking. 10/10 would recommend

I'd say Alaska and maybe Washington and Montana may have slightly more beautiful mountains, but Colorados are absolutely beautiful.

I almost would consider parts of colorado to have glaciers bc they dont completely melt in the summer

I just love how big the mountains are in co... They just feel immense to me

Having been to every western state, I can say WA has the most impressive mountains outside of Alaska. Wyoming and Montana are dope, but other than the Tetons they aren't nearly as steep and rocky from peak to valley.
