How do you define wealth

might sound a weird question but what would you consider well off. For example what would you expect someone making good money at work to be able to afford in skiing, like trips away, gear etc.

When you are looking for a job are you thinking about it in terms of what you could afford to put towards skiing?

I really keep it to me personally. As different people want different things. I personally define wealth as being comfortable, meaning a stable living situation, good health, and some kind of monetary cushion, and a plan, even if it's more just goals.

Somebody that is doing something they love to do/are good at, and able to make it through life for the most part relatively stable. Even if there are some speed bumps, it's a situation where they can stay afloat.

That probably doesn't afford crazy ski vacations and a second home in the mountains, but to me that's where it's at. If living frugally, they can still get some solid adventures in.

Honestly for me that's what it's all about.

I'm sure I could find a job making more money than the jobs I've worked, but for me, this is what I was born to do. If I didn't make any money, even if I actually had to pay money, I would still do my job.

If you're at a point where money is nearly irrelevant to your work, and your living is stable enough to keep you comfortable that's wealth to me.

If I worked my whole life doing something I hated just to make more $, I would feel like I wasted my time. Also you never know when it's your last day. I would hate to slave away stacking some funds, and then die young, having never really lived the way I wanted to, or done/seen the things and places I wanted to.

There's a happy medium in there for everyone. For me I'd like to keep enough of a buffer zone that I have something to keep me afloat, but still go on plenty of adventures and fill that part of my life.

Being wealthy is having what you want/need enough to do whatever you wanted as long as you are having fun. Wealth is enough to support myself and to ski, all I need. I could be wealthy in pointless knowledge, but that doesn't matter to me as it doesn't support me

Wealth is having the time and resources to enrich yourself mentally and physically and having people to share that with.

Wealth is being able to enjoy the world. Wealth is the opportunity to be truly full.

Or something like that I think, good question!

for me, wealth is experience. the more things i do, places i go, and foods i taste the more wealthy i get. i couldnt give less of a shit how much money i have as long as i and living each day to the fullest i will be the wealthiest guy in the world

Not going to lie. I want to be very wealthy. I want to be able to raise a family of 4, move to Colorado, and afford AT LEAST one supercar. To me, if you have financial security, you can be considered wealthy.

Half the answers here are BS and excuses for not wanting to pursue the dream of money. Happiness is what most people on here are describing.

Wealth for me is having the means to not worrying about what comes next. I work my ass off for six months putting in the hours of a full years work and take the winters off. That for me is all the wealth I need.

I think the answer lies somewhere in vast amounts of lambos and bookshelves.

To be well off financially can be different to many and depends on your lifestyle and geographic location. Some want that new gear every season, others don't care. I always think about skiing, so being able to afford it is always important. Knowing that, I would turn down a shit job that pays well for a fun job that pays poorly as long as I can get out to the hill at least 1-2 times a week.

According to a study done at Princeton, happiness peaks at $75K - I would imagine this depends on your currency as well as what the standard of living in your country is. The seemingly low number (compared to what plenty of people make) might have something to do with kids getting in fights with you once your dad hits the 5 mil range.

Money doesn't make a trip or skiing better. An nice trip with just your car, some cans and an ski pass can be at least as good as an trip at an 5* hotel.

A thing wich matters more is free time, and time in general.

money is worthless if you don't have the time to enjoy it. living the dream in a ski town but not being able to afford/have the means to do the things you want is just is bad

I try to prioritize things so I have both the time to do what I like and the means to do so. Funny you should bring up wealth, in the mad scramble to get ready for the season I bought both a season pass and a pair of skis this week and will be very stingy with my next two paychecks so that I can pay off my cc next month. So this month I chose skiing, but I think my life would be very unfulfilled if I put my limited resources towards skiing all year long.

Wealth is entirely subjective. One person would consider themselves wealthy if they have a huge NYC apartment, have a well paying job, can afford anything they want and can do whatever they want. To me that sounds miserable. I would rather have a reliable camper and be able to just travel around the country when I wanted. Of course, everything cost money though.

People love to knock the dudes living in their car skiing all winter and mountain biking/rock climbing all summer. If you talk to them, they are some of the happiest people you'll ever meet.

Life is all about the experiences not the amount of shit you can accumulate.

to me its a little bit anout money, but not that you need tons of it... if youre supporting yourself well enough to do everything you want and not be stressed about it then youre doing just fine

i mean personally if i'm happy with life i'd say im wealthy

i had enough to pay rent and just get by in whistler and loved it, i'm now back in england where im saving heaps of money but miserable as fuck

definitely know which situation i'd rather be in

Family, Knowledge, Health = Wealth, thats how the equation breaks down for me at least. The pre-concieved notion our society has of wealth is sickening to me. Having a big house, nice car, and all that shit sounds dope but whos to say that'll make everybody happy. Wealth is just like happiness, its within you, its something you feel and can only be achieved internally not externally.

Being happy without stress is the wealthiest I will ever be. I don't really care too much about money I just wanna move out west and live with a few friends and do fun shit during my time on earth. I don't see the point in working so much if you don't have time to enjoy life even if you do have a big house and a nice car. I would rather be happy with little than be stressed with a lot.

So true. Being happy with your life is worth exponentially more than any paycheck. For me, a big part of personal wealth comes from helping others. The vast majority of NSers (including myself) have grown up with so much more opportunity than most of the world.
