Do it! I went to Hakuba last January and we're going back this year. Can't wait. Japan is sick, you'll have a blast. Round trip plane ticket LAX -> Tokyo is $900. Hostels are $25 per night. Lunch varies depending on the ski area. Some are Asian buffets. Others are more casual sit down style. Things like pork and rice, udon noodle soup, noodle bowls, etc.
