Narration in Ski Flicks

Noticed that this has become kind of a trend. Valhalla, AfterGlow, and Passenger to name a few. I am personally not a fan since it just feels hokey and forced. The only time it worked really well was in Ten and Two. I am all for creativity but most of the time the narration just feels like a purposeless addition to an otherwise great film.

What do ya'll think?

I don't mind it. I think it helps keep audience follow the story rather than just have tricks after tricks. It helps me keep focus on the movie because after a while of only tricks I'll zone out and start to do something else.

Just rewatched ten and two last night. Agreed that the narration on that was absolutely right on.

The narration in Passenger was just unnecessary uttering of bullshit. It did nothing but make the film less about skiing and more about the filmmakers trying to be artsy for themselves.

Been a problem for me for years. It just always comes across as hokey and trite. Passenger for me was a cool flick, but the narration was about as overwrought and dramatic/silly as I've seen. Again, not hating on the movie, just didn't enjoy the narration at all. Even the theme was ok, the intro wasn't bad, but as it continued throughout I was kind of rolling my eyes

Came here to post this. I think it gives it more of a story/plot-line rather than just a compilation of tricks.

Serious narration in ski movies is dumb as hell. "Oh the snow, she calls... Blah blah blah..."

Have the skiers tell the "story". I'd rather listen to someone explaining where they are and hat they're there for, than listening to some Morgan Freeman wannabe making everything sound dramatic. It's skiing, it's supposed to be fun.
