How did you make it through college and ski a lot?

First winter in college and I'm wondering how the hell broke college kids afford to drop money on skis, gear, lift tickets, and all the other things your parents use to help you out with when you were younger. I got a winter job working at a resort to cover lift, but I feel like my earnings along with spending's will limit the amount of cool trips I can take and gear I can buy. Im trying to work out west during the summer to get my foot in a door at some resort or something, but I want to know how you yourself did it and what helped. I need advise, save my future!

I made my schedules to have Monday and Wednesday early classes (I'm done by noon typically) and then late classes on Tuesday and Thursday (I start From 1 p.m. or 3 p.m.) Allowing for optimal ski days and enough time to recover. Friday is typically shred day all day, so is Saturday, then Sunday is my catch up day.

With funding, take notes for classes for the university or tutor.

With the attitude you have, just drop out. It doesn't sound like you will be missing much, and you will have more time to ski.

kids with cars ate good, but some schools offer shuttles. I guess it just will depend which is cheaper

I skied anywhere from 40- 90 days a year at Seymour and Whistler during my undergrad at UBC. And around 90 during my masters.

It took lots of time management, you have x amount of time to get your homework done, just get it over with. Financially it was a challenge, but there are always deals to be had. Most mountains have student deals, I was lucky enough to get one of my passes for free for coaching, and get my equipment fairly cheaply through a rep. I worked as a TA on campus which gave me a bit of money to justify skiing. I also worked my ass off in the summer, tried to make as much money as possible.

During the winters I gave up partying. I also gave up probably gave any chance for action in uni by living with my grandma (dont regret it, she was rad), she was very generous to me and let me use her car to go skiing.

This is my 3rd season skiing as a full time college student. It is not easy but it can be done for sure. You have to plan way far ahead, and obviously try to save as much money as possible. For example, I am buying new boots this year, so I cannot purchase any new outerwear until next season.

I only stayed in Whistler for two years, ended up separating my shoulder real bad and moved home to go back to school - but that time for something I was actually interested in.
