Gear in the dorm room

The last fees months have been nothing but college planning, applications, letters, essays, meetings, etc. But an important question came to mind... How do you fit your gear in a dorm room? I've always been a gear whore so that doesn't help, but to add to the dilemma I got into off season mountain biking. Any suggestions/advice or stories you Guys have for a senior?

It's not that hard.

My roommates and I skied and snowboarded together. We just put all our skis/boards in the corner. I put my boots there too. I had a hook for my jacket and pants and then hung up all my hoodies and tees. It's really not difficult.

tie everything together with twine and hang it out your window. that way you wont stank up your room and the bears wont be able to get at it either.

Yep, bed risers do the trick. I also only brought what I knew I would need with me. Later on if I decide I want my other pair I can bring them back with me over break.

As Mentioned above, bedrisers are life savers. You'll have plenty of room to put all your needed gear. Get storage containers to put your clothing and what not in. I separated my hoodies, jackets, and pants into three different containers. Will be adding another container for additional hoodies. If you put all the containers towards the wall, you'll have room to lay skis and poles in front of the containers.

Ski stuff in storage containers under bed.

As for the mountain bike, if you're not leaving it on a bike rack outside, try and make room for an open wall in your room you can keep it up against. If that wouldn't work, you could try to keep the bike in the back of your closet. You could take the wheels off the frame for easier closet storage. Another option, maybe try and chain it to the stair railing in the stairwell on the first floor of your dorm, I know of a few people who do that here. Ask RAs as well, I'm sure they'd be willing to help figure out where to keep your bike safe and accessible for you.

Bike is more complicated.

Bike locks aren't that good tho. You can cut through them easily if someone wants. I'd keep it inside if possible

I wouldn't lock my bike up outside a dorm. Considering all someone needs is a multiform to steal hundreds of dollars in parts off it

You could just get like 3M tags to hang your gear. What I do is just get wooden/metal circular pieces of wood, and drill/glue them to the wall. If you do this to the Dead space you have over your bed/wall you can just set them there. 3 pogs usually do it for me, One for tail, one for binding/underfoot and one for tip. Just be sure to whip your gear down before hanging it up.

By pogs I mean a type of cork shaped wood. It would have to be long enough to go the waist of the ski, and strong enough to support the weight. Industrial strength stuff would be your best bet and reinforcing it with duct tape going in an upwards pattern (So it looks like a "V" with the pog in the center forming the "V") should work.

I made a 4 foot tall loft out of 2x4s and plywood and I can fit two pairs of skis on hooks on the beams directly under the mattress, one pair on hooks across the back diagonal brace, a climbing pad (doubles as a couch), a lawn chair, a bike, and still hang a hammock between two corners. I could fit at least two more pairs of skis and another bike if I didn't have a climbing pad.

If you have a nice mountain bike I would suggest just getting a cheap old road bike or fixed gear or something of the like to ride around campus and town. Locking an expensive bike to a rack works fine until someone comes along and steals all of the hundreds of dollars worth of components.

my dorm last year had a room on my floor for bikes. i only saw like 1 person use it and i feel like most schools don't have that. ski stuff is easy to store: the under the bed, in the corner or in the closet are all easy.

Last year I had a quad so we had our own common room, so that's where me and one of my roommates kept our shit in the winter. During the warmer months i just kept skis, boots, and poles under my bed in bags and outerwear in my closet

OP, you wouldn't have this problem if you join a frat. Super easy to store all your shit.

Somebody once locked their bike to the bottom of the stairs on the first floor of my dorm. But they locked it through the rim of the front tire only. So somebody else undid the quick release and separated the two pieces. But they didn't take it. They left a note telling the owner of the bike to try a bit harder next time.

But my dorm room had this big ass closest and we stuff all our extra gear into it.

I always just shoved all my stuff under my bed and in the closet. Had a friend that hung his stuff underneath his bed. Also another friend who lofted his bed put his mattress on the floor and but all his stuff where the mattress should have gone. Also a lot of schools don't let you bring bikes inside.

im a freshman in a dorm room right now and i used rope to hang my skis underneath my lofted bed, my boots are in my boot bag underneath my desk and jacket is just hanging on a nail from the door of my closet. other shit is in the doors

Most university dorms have a storage facility as well as outside racks for your bike. They are very secure and only people in your building can get into them. Still get a bike lock, or remove a tire as well.

Yeah, when your bike costs thousands of dollars, its probly not the best option haha.

Not to mention you still have no convenient place to do some simple wrenching.

Definitely like the design and look, boe it's just down to here I end up going and who I end up rooming with. Hopefully they're isn't some weird fire code that prevents this from happening though

Doubt you'd be able to get away with something like that. Last year I got shit from my RA because I had a poster at the top of the wall and per fire code we weren't allowed to have anything within like 2 feet of the ceiling
