Replying to Is the traditional ski film company dying out?
Warning upfront that this an enormous summer thread and Im just ripping an all nighter trying to keep my mind off this midterm (TMI). This year had just as much great content released as any other year. However, I can't help but feel that around trailer season there just were not as many trailers being produced. Great film companies are dying out, like Poor Boyz and Stept, and in place solo projects seem like they are taking over. Even the surviving old faithful, Level 1, named a movie Less due to the fact that they had to do a project that year with so many people leaving their crew. Small World had even more skiers leave. Big weapons in the sport like Vila, Wallisch, White, Logan have gone off to do their own thing in the last few years and they have taken many weapons with them in their solo pursuits. There is also dank free content being produced by groups like the HG, BRS, Hoodcrew, Bunch, Inspired, etc. Im not saying thats a bad direction for the sport, its just having grown up on EDIAS, Refresh, and Eighty Six, its a little sad that the great film companies of the earlier days, whose vibes and editing styles I came to know and love, are fading. The very distinct new vibes and editing styles of groups like the Bunch are certainly refreshing and pushing against the grain, but I just wonder will there never be a big old park shoot like in EDIAS or in Eye Trip in the future? Will there even be a Level 1 or Superunknown contest 5 years from now?
