Research Paper

Alright guys so here's the deal, I have to write a research paper for my English 102 class (pretty typical). However I really want to take it seriously and try my best to not make the assignment as shitty as it sounds. My teacher is pretty dope and this is without a doubt the most enjoyable class I am taking this semester so I definitely feel the need to work hard on this assignment. Anyways, the requirements are extremely lenient. Just needs to be 2500 words and an arguable topic. I want to do something that has to do with skiing since its clearly something I'm extremely interested in. Since it has to be an arguable topic it's kind of hard to come up with legit ideas related to skiing. My current idea is since freestyle skiing such a danger sport, is it worth the risk? I'm just curious to see if you guys have any good ideas or if you think I should just try to run with my current idea. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Helmets, Do they cause or prevent injuries? You can support either claim

Obviously they prevent Head trauma, but people also argue that it gives people a false sense of comfort to get sendy when in reality they probably shouldn't be doing that kind of skiing

-environmental effects of resorts.
-parents exposing their kids to dangerous sports.
-Avalanche control
-urban skiing being legal or not
-FIS in general

Whatever you choose to do make sure there is enough academic material out there to get information from. Remember it is a research paper, not an Op-Ed.

This. Pick something that there's actual numbers behind. I would go the easy route and do something on seatbelt laws, etc. There's more data on a subject like that so the paper will be much easier to write. The downside is that it is slightly less interesting, but the paper itself will be better.

When I cracked my helmet and hurt myself it was off like a 10 foot jump I landed 90 on a cork 5 and flipped on my head. Also most of the people even on this site dont hit 60 foot jumps and flip them, and the people who do I doubt they do it because of their helmet. I do hit large jumps all the time and all those injuries i had did not involved not my head, but broken bones and ripped ligaments, and although head injuries do happen I think they're are only a small present when we are talking about, when it comes to acl tears and broken arms and legs. Also people hit large jumps all the time with out helmets so its not a deterrent if you take it away.

Given the insanely short summer season on the Whistler glacier this year and the drought much of west had in terms of snowfall, it might be very relevant to write about global climate change and tie it into skiing. Tons of material out there, divisive issue - all the makings of an argument. What specifically you might argue, I don't know, but that's the fun part.

You could look at traffic to ski hills and pollution of cars that go to the ski hills versus something like the bullet trains in japan. Especially if your in the denver area with all the people that go to summit county.

I would do something about this. How climate change affects snow/winter/ winter sports such as skiing. There is a lot of provable material that can be found on the internet.
