Forward flexing; Do I suck, or is it my equipment setup?

So...

I love butters. I really do. But I feel like i'm held back by my skis/bindings/dins/IDK. Every time I try to get a good press in, a REAALLY flexed out press, I can never seem to do it. I have tried just absolutely throwing my weight back and holding it, but I only get the skis about 6 inches off the ground.

Also, I can't learn nose butters for my life. You know, the ones that make you squirt a little bit of juice every time you see them? Yea, that's what I want to do, but ever time I try and put enough weight to get the type of flex, I either pop out of my bindings or just can't do it...

So NS, is my equipment at fault? Do I have shit skis for butters? Or is there something i'm missing here...



Reference tables:

Skis: Line Chronics 2014
Bindings: Tyrolia attack 13 (bindings set at like 8. I used a calc online and I put it a few above)
Boots: Full tilt booters (inb4 urmagurd u a fool telt newberr)

Your boots may be a bit to big.

If they are, that means that your foot slides back when you lean forward to nose butter and you don't have enough force to butter because your foot is swimming around in your boot.

Retweet. I can get presses fairly easily, but real nose butter 3s I get rekt every time. But the little hop around shuffle nosebutter 3s anyone can do. Tips?

bend your fucking legs people. all of your leverage is in your thighs. bend your knees and actually try to press your tails/noses in the ground with your leg muscles. you can't just lean back/forward

I learned butters by nose blocking. Weird but its the same concept. If you can get a good nose block you can get a good butter

the chronics aren't that stiff of a ski so it shouldn't be to hard to do nose or tail butters

It's much easier to set a butter into a cork than a regular spin. However everything after the butter is a different story.

i used to have this problem. what was causing it for me was the heel padding on the sole of the boot was worn out from walking around in my boot so much (where i ski/teach, its easier to put boots on in my car and walk across the parking lot which wears out the padding) check to see if you can replace that padding cause that fixed it for me.

This. People have this idea that if you can step into a binding it will be fine. It's not the case. Unless the forward pressure and afd height (if you have that option) are correct you will be coming out much easier no matter what the din is set to.

I wouldnt say that. butttering is just like any other trick. Remember how hard it was to get your head around on a 360 at first or a 270 out. You just have to keep trying. Me personally i could NEVER butter and i tried and tried. Then first day of the year one year i tried and it was just there. SOmetimes a fresh start to a trick after a break is great. But really try to lift your knees its not all about the weight and lean . . . but with that being said also fully commit to that shit. Doesnt work really if you try to do it half committed at half speed. Also i find that it was a lot easier for me to learn tail butter then nose butters. DUnno why but just something to think about. Got some BDOGS in the mail last month stocked to try them buttering! 8) Have fun man

It's probably not your equipment. A true butter takes a lot of edge control and practice. It took me a year of skiing almost everyday to learn them the right way at high speeds. It's not something you're going to get in a couple days of skiing. Don't get discouraged, just understand that it's not like doing a 270 out and is going to take a lot of time.

For a nosebutter, pop the 180 and lean as hard as you can into the tips, bend you knees! Keep leaning harder and harder forward until you fall over the tips. You'll be surprised at how far forward you can get before hitting that limit. When you watch delorme, pollard, russell, etc butter, their bodies are almost parallel with the ground while on their noses. That takes a ton of commitment and it's why it looks so damn good when they do it

Half of buttering's an illusion, practice doing 3's over rollers and immediately dip your tips down as you go into the 1. You'll figure out how to do 3's while dragging your tips, and then you can take that ability and start leaning into it to butter.

This sit actually a bad idea. I learned by doing nose blocks. Maybe a combo of both? Learn a good nose block them dip your tips more and more and then put some pressure down and that might work

There are just so many variations of butters, pretty much limitless. This is just the way everyone does and it's starting to get pretty stale. I want to start seeing some fresh variations. Forward tail butters are a fairly unexplored realm, think nollie 180 to sw manual.

I also want to learn to do butters, they looks really steezy but i cant really commit to them because I am afraid of breaking my skis since I am quite heavy actually. I am something like 93 kilos(~205 lbs) and 1.82cm tall. I am currently skiing with Apo Kai Park. Am I worrying with a reason or should I just say "Fuck it, im worrying for nothing, lets do it"?

Take your dins and crank those whores all the way up. when you leanin into the nosebutter dont think about leaning directly forward because thats what messes everyone up. lean forwards but slightly towards the direction you want to spin and you be spreading it like toast

buy an FKS 18 and max out the dins. The FKS is a really safe binding and an 18 din is ideal for butters. plus people will think you are a badass when you carry around a binding set at 18.

Um maybe if you want to break your legs when you are actually skiing haha. I got my dins set alot lower than that and can practically press my forehead to the tips of my skis without ejecting (exaggeration)

but seriously.... I would say that there could be a number of things wrong. As far as popping out of your bindings check your forward pressure and up your dins (not to 18 unless your like 500 lbs and are dropping 700 foot cliffs.) if you are still popping out after adjusting forward pressure and dins then get some better bindings.

I've never rode your skis but they could also be too stiff. I would say if you get the bindings fixed, so that you don't pop out, and you still can't flex the skis enough to butter than you probably need softer skis. (or to gain a couple hundred pounds haha)
