Ski Trip instead of Grad Party

I'll be graduating HS this spring and instead of having a party or getting gifts, my dad has agreed to take me on a ski trip.

It will be the week of January 1. Who usually has good snow around then? Whistler, Utes, Jackson?

A ski trip will cost far more than the money I'd receive from a grad party, so I figure I might as well take the opportunity.

PLUS, grad parties are super lame if you ask me.

True. Go on the trip with him! My dad and I went to Colorado together a few years ago, it was pretty awesome.

Take the trip they will probably still throw you a grad party they just won't feel the need to spend as much on it.

Graduation parties are very important for enjoying that wonderful summer after HS before college you will have plenty of money for drugs and alcohol after it. Don't spend it on a bong and let your parents break it though like I did...

I brought in like $2,500 from my Grad party. BUT as far as resorts go I'm also bias and vote jackson.

if this el niño lives up to the hype pretty much anywhere will be sick. my personal opinion would be Wolf Creek, CO kinda by Durango, tiny little resort but the terrain and snow is to die for. if you want the bigger resorts i would say Vail or Beaver Creek

15 years ago for me. And I would personally make sure I had a grad party. I pulled in 3k or so from my party.

If you pick a college to go to that has a ski club you can get trips west for super cheap and super fun! I went with the Ohio university snocats four years to Colorado. 5-7 gray hound buses loaded up with college kids caravan from Columbus Ohio to aspen/steamboat. It was a hell of a time.

I would tell your parents you want a grad party but a ski trip would be an awesome graduation present!

With all the unknowns of this El Nino I would talk to Dad about keeping it flexible. Who knows where the snow will be good, Cali, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, Oregon, really it's a crap shoot at this point. If I was planning a trip for Jan. 1st I would pick a top choice and then about 3 back up locations. Make sure you can get to the back up places with the same airline and that you buy a ticket that can easily rescheduled and then buy your tickets for your top choice.

There's a reason Jackson Hole has been voted the best resort in North America. If you were having to lock your trip on right now, you can never go wrong there.

You are a lucky young man. My father never skied. I had to do it with other friends family's and groups etc. I'm grateful for those times.

Congratulations and have an epic time with the "old man".

I like Bachelor, but then again, I'm stuck there because travel is a bit out of my budget.
