How to Study Abroad for Simpletons

So I wanna study abroad, looking into summer of 2017. I go to CU and am a pre engineering major, I'm looking at getting a business/management minor/certificate so my plan is to knock that out while I'm in wherever.

Hit me up with some stories, do's and don'ts, and recommendations of any kind.

Make sure you go somewhere that teaches in English(or a language you know). A girl I went to high school with went to Spain assuming they would teach in English and they didn't. She essentially wasted a ton of money, came home early, and was a semester behind in school.

If you're looking for the summer, maybe try to go to New Zealand/ Australia since it's winter there and you can ski. Each school has different offerings so it's hard to make a suggestion.

DO: Learn to use apostrophes correctly.

DON'T: Write an application letter where you look like a retard.

Studying abroad has everything to do with disposable income. If your budget (or the budget of your parents more importantly) can sustain it, studying abroad can be great. It also doesn't hurt to have on your resume.

Epic Fail. Seriously. I know everybody makes mistakes, but what the fuck was she thinking. Especially being Spain, a country well know for speaking Spanish.

if you move to europe, move somewhere close to an airport with easyjet/ryanair, and book your flights 6 months in advance. Youll travel somewhere new every weekend for like $20

Going abroad as an engineering major is very difficult because typically you'll be missing classes from your major during that span. Most of these classes are mandatory, unlike business and liberal art majors who can just substitute bullshit classes abroad for ones they have to take already (language, history, international politics, local economics classes).

Your best bet as an engineer would be to so a summer abroad program and get some extra credits. Did that with geology rather than business for my engineering degree and it helped a ton

try to do a program that is once in a lifetime. you can eurotrip without university classes.

Currently in Shanghai, China for a semester. If you get the chance to study abroad do it! You gonna have the best time. Meeting so many people from all over the world, traveling, making new friends its so much fun.

I go to CU, went to university of Otago last semester in New Zealand and had a blast. They have a decent business school where you can knock out some of those classes as well.

Currently in Germany! Its so rad.



Put yourself out there-Try as many new things as possible
Don't travel every weekend. Get some sleep so you aren't a miserable zombie.
Also dont take trains that are longer than 10 hours/ that have multiple connections
Try not to miss too much class.
Be nice to everyone/ dont isolate yourself with people you think you like/could bang
Dont go out every night. you will not only save TONS of money, be healthier, but you may able to enjoy the places you are visiting more (not being hungover or still drunk/ out of it).
